What is this tour like?
Island Fishing Malta runs bluefin tuna and little tunny trips from Pontoon E in Kalkara. The operator says its boat is the only fishing boat with permits to work up to 12 nautical miles offshore. The trip lasts six hours: join a shared charter (up to four guests, €250 per person) or book the boat privately for your group (up to five guests, €700 for the boat).
Everything you need is on board: an experienced, licensed captain, quality rods and reels, fresh bait, fuel, bottled water and full safety equipment including life jackets, life raft, EPIRB and VHF radio. The bluefin tuna licence is included in the price. It lets you keep one bluefin tuna per week if registered for that week (minimum size 120 cm); any additional tuna is catch and release. Little tunny may be kept only in the quantity you plan to eat — the rest are released.
The boat has a toilet on board. Hotel transfers, meals and alcoholic beverages are not included. Arrive at the meeting point at least 15 minutes before departure.
