Checked: September 2026. A jet ski on Phuket comes in three formats, and each is priced differently. A beach ride at Patong averaged ฿1,500 (≈ $42) per 30 minutes in June 2026, and posted board rates there run ฿1,500–2,300 (≈ $42–64) for 30 minutes and about ฿4,600 (≈ $127) for an hour. A guided island tour is priced per jet ski for one or two riders: ฿4,800 (≈ $133) for two hours, ฿6,500 (≈ $180) or ฿7,500 (≈ $208) for four. A jet ski hired from a charter yacht is quoted by a Phuket charter broker, Yachts for Kings, at ฿5,000–8,000 (≈ $139–222) per ski per hour.

The price is rarely what goes wrong. The return is: a scratch that was already there, a passport held as a deposit, a bill written on the spot. The British government's travel advice for Thailand names jet-ski rental by name when it says not to hand over your passport as a guarantee.

How much does a jet ski cost on Phuket in 2026?

It depends on what you are buying: time in a zone off the beach, or a route between islands. At Patong around 170 jet skis are run by more than 50 businesses, and the average rental in June 2026 was ฿1,500 (≈ $42) per 30 minutes, according to the Phuket Express report on the Deputy Transport Minister's inspection.

Board rates collected by the independent guide EVE Phuket in 2026 are higher: about ฿1,000 (≈ $28) for 15 minutes, ฿1,500–2,300 (≈ $42–64) for 30 minutes solo, about ฿4,600 (≈ $127) for an hour and ฿3,000 (≈ $83) for two riders on one craft for 30 minutes. An hour on the beach therefore costs about the same as a two-hour guided tour at ฿4,800 (≈ $133).

Beach ride or island tour: what actually changes?

A beach ride keeps you inside a marked zone off the sand, next to swimmers, for a slot measured in minutes. When the Transport Ministry inspected Phuket in June 2026, it singled out unlicensed vessels, expired permits and services encroaching on swimming zones, all of it in the beach zones.

An island tour leaves from a pier with a guide riding a separate jet ski. The nine-island route from AA Marina runs at 09:00 or 13:30, with lunch at Naka Noi; the six-island route from Rassada is an afternoon ride, first stop 13:30 and last 17:15. The two-hour tour covers Mali island, the mangroves and Rang Yai, in slots of 10:00–12:00 or 14:00–16:00.

Is the price per person or per jet ski?

Per jet ski, in every format. On the island tours one machine takes up to two riders: four people need two jet skis, ฿13,000 (≈ $360) on the six-island route and ฿15,000 (≈ $416) on the nine-island one. On the two-hour tour a third rider costs ฿500 (≈ $14) more, but the machine has a 190 kg load limit, so the group's weight decides whether three is possible.

On the beach, a slot is also sold per machine, and a second rider changes the price: ฿3,000 (≈ $83) for two on one craft for 30 minutes on Patong boards. Children ride the island tours as passengers with an adult from the age of five.

Deposit, passport, insurance: what should you hand over?

Never your passport. The UK Foreign Office advice for Thailand says: «Do not hand your passport over as a guarantee, for example to motorcycle or jet-ski rental businesses. Companies may hold on to passports against claimed damage.» If a beach stall asks for one, walk to the next stall.

On the island tours the price includes guest life insurance, and the two-hour tour lists insurance: that covers the riders, not damage to the machine. Whatever the format, ask what the operator's cover includes before you ride. Check your own travel policy for motorised watersports before the trip, not after an incident.

Important

Under Thai navigation law a jet ski counts as a vessel; the law requires a permit for the vessel and a boat licence for the person operating it. Phuket's provincial count of 384 jet skis sorts them into four groups, from fully registered operators to illegal vessels; the fully registered operators work at Patong, Kata, Karon, Kamala, Bang Tao and Naka Island. In a December 2024 crackdown Marine Department inspectors fined ฿10,000 (≈ $277) for each of 72 illegal jet skis.

How do you avoid a damage claim?

The pattern is always the same: you bring the machine back, and a mark that was already there becomes a repair bill. The independent Phuket Expat Guide describes demands of ฿5,000–30,000 (≈ $139–831) for such scratches and dents. Five minutes with your phone before the start are the cheapest defence against it.

  • Film the whole jet ski before you ride, including both hull sides, and check that the video saved with its timestamp
  • Ask for a written rental agreement with the price, the length of the slot and the condition of the machine before you pay
  • Leave a cash deposit with a receipt or a photocopy instead of the passport
  • Do not pay a damage bill in cash on the spot under pressure; call the Tourist Police on 1155, a 24-hour line with operators in several languages
  • Ride only inside the marked zone and keep away from swimmers

Which months are busiest for jet skis on Phuket?

Of the jet ski bookings Elyxta handled on Phuket over the past year, seven in ten fell in three winter months: January took 35.3 %, December 19.7 % and February 15.4 %. May, June, July and August together took 2.7 %.

These shares show when people ride, not what the weather does. On the two-hour tour the operator decides on the morning itself whether the sea allows the route, and a bad-weather slot moves to the other slot of the day or to another date.

How to choose a jet ski format on Phuket

  • You want 30 minutes of speed near your hotel — a beach ride at a licensed zone, around ฿1,500 (≈ $42); film the machine and keep your passport
  • First time, and you want to see islands — the two-hour tour at ฿4,800 (≈ $133) per jet ski; the morning slot is back by noon
  • A whole half day with lunch — six islands in the afternoon from Rassada at ฿6,500 (≈ $180); or nine islands from AA Marina near Phuket Town, hotel transfer included, at ฿7,500 (≈ $208)
  • Your own route and your own guide — the private VIP tour from AA Marina, the nine-point route run privately, at ฿12,500 per jet ski

All Phuket jet ski tours are on the Phuket jet ski page. If jet skis are only part of your plan, see which island tour to choose from Phuket, what a Phuket boat trip includes and what suits children and from what age.

Questions before you ride

How much is a jet ski on Phuket for 30 minutes?

About ฿1,500 (≈ $42) at Patong: that was the average reported in June 2026 across more than 50 businesses. Posted board rates run ฿1,500–2,300 (≈ $42–64) for one rider and ฿3,000 (≈ $83) for two on one craft.

Do you need a licence to ride a jet ski on Phuket?

Not on the guided tours: the operators state that guests need no licence or experience, with a briefing and a guide alongside. Thai law formally requires a boat licence for whoever operates a vessel, so ask the operator how its permit covers guests.

Should I leave my passport as a deposit?

No. UK government travel advice for Thailand warns against handing a passport to jet-ski rental businesses as a guarantee, because companies may hold it against claimed damage. Offer a cash deposit with a receipt or a photocopy.

What do I do if the operator says I damaged the jet ski?

Show your pre-ride video, do not pay cash on the spot under pressure, and call the Tourist Police on 1155 — the line works 24 hours and in several languages.

Can children ride a jet ski on Phuket?

As passengers with an adult, from the age of five, on the island tours. On the two-hour tour the 190 kg load limit applies to everyone on the machine, so tell the operator the group's make-up when you book.
