What is this tour like?

Musandam is the Omani peninsula that closes the Strait of Hormuz — cliffs dropping straight into deep water, inlets that look like Norwegian fjords with the temperature turned up. Divers from the Emirates treat it as the serious day out.

The boat leaves at seven and you're on the water most of the day. Three guided dives at the peninsula's known sites, with the outbound and return legs run as a cruise through the inlets rather than a transfer to be endured. Guides here are chosen for knowing the currents, which around Musandam are not a formality.

This is not a first dive. The operator asks for certified divers, recommends an Advanced card and around thirty logged dives, and keeps the ratio at five divers to a guide. Snorkellers can come along but stay in the shallows. Three dives, lunch, snacks and soft drinks and all the Omani entry paperwork are in the price; full gear rental, nitrox, visa fees and transfer from Dubai are not.
