My wife and I went for in total 9 dives with kon-tiki and enjoyed the islands in low season basically in private dive setup. Steve, Libby and Andreas took us on cool adventures including two caves. Plenty of marine life as dotted eagle rays and seahorses.

What is this tour like?

A full-day snorkelling trip through the Ao Nang archipelago — what the operator and the local boats call the Local Islands — on Kon-Tiki’s boat Ingmarie. ฿1,900 (about $53) for an adult, ฿1,500 for a child of 4 to 12. You meet the guide on Ao Nang beach at 07:45 and are back there at 15:00.

The archipelago is thirteen islands about forty-five minutes from the beach. The boat stops at three of them. The operator lists butterflyfish, cornetfish, pufferfish, sea snakes, needlefish and large shoals of fusiliers among what you can expect, and says some of the islands have sea caves you can snorkel into.

One thing to read before booking: on this route there is no snorkel guide in the water with you. The dive staff brief each site thoroughly from the boat, but you must be able to swim independently. On Kon-Tiki’s Phi Phi and Koh Haa trips a guide does go in with the snorkellers — the operator states the difference itself.

The trip page says no marine park fee applies on the Ao Nang archipelago route. Equipment, hotel pickup, soft drinks, electrolyte, snacks, water, coffee, tea, fresh fruit and lunch are all included.

FAQ

Is the price per person?
Yes. The operator publishes ฿1,900 (about $53) for an adult and ฿1,500 for a child aged 4 to 12 as two separate lines, which is what makes the unit per head rather than per boat.
Is there a guide in the water with us?
Not on this route. The operator states plainly that the Ao Nang archipelago trip is an independent snorkelling trip and that you must be able to swim on your own; the dive staff brief each site from the boat. On the Phi Phi and Koh Haa Marine Park trips a guide does accompany snorkellers in the water.
Do we pay a marine park fee?
The trip page for the Ao Nang archipelago says no marine park fee. Kon-Tiki’s Phi Phi snorkelling trip is different: there the fee is ฿400 (about $11) for an adult and ฿200 for a child, collected separately.
How long does the day last?
The published sample schedule runs from 07:45 on Ao Nang beach to 15:00 back at Ao Nang — a little over seven hours. The operator notes that times can change without notice.
How many islands do we visit?
Three stops. The archipelago itself has thirteen islands; the boat picks three of them for the day depending on conditions.
Can children come?
Yes — there is a published child rate of ฿1,500 (about $42) for ages 4 to 12. Bear in mind that nobody guides in the water on this route, so a child must be a confident swimmer or stay with an adult.
Are there divers on the same boat?
Yes. This is Kon-Tiki’s dive boat Ingmarie, and the second stop of the day is a diving stop as well as a snorkelling one.
When is the best time of year for this trip?
The Andaman high season is November to April, when the sea is calmest and visibility best. Kon-Tiki runs the Ao Nang archipelago every day in high season; for the green season, 1 May to 30 October, the operator asks you to contact them for the schedule.

฿2,900 (about $80) for two dives at the islands you can see from Ao Nang beach, on a traditional long-tail boat rather than a speedboat. from ฿2,900 The price list gives “Local Islands (2 dives) — ฿2,900” without stating whether that is per diver or per booking. Ask which it is when you book.
