Club Loongchat is a gem of a place in Pattaya. We try to go there every weekend to catch some wind, waves and much needed wind-down time! Pop and his crew really go the extra mile to make you feel welcomed. The club has a cosy community feel about it. We've taken windsurfing and surfing lessons there as well as a joy ride on the Hobie Craft. The instructors are very knowledgeable.
What is this tour like?
Clubloongchat is on the same stretch of Na Jomtien as the other wind schools; it has been in the same family for three generations and teaches all five sports from one counter: windsurf, wingfoil, kitesurf, Hobie catamaran sailing and SUP. Lessons are one-on-one, and the instructors — Kru Kaew, Kru Tu, Kru Surf, Kru Dech — each cover several disciplines, so the answer to 'what should I try in this wind' comes from the person who will be on the water with you.
The published rates are per hour and easy to compare. Windsurfing is the cheapest way in at ฿900 an hour, with a one-day course at ฿2,000. Wingfoiling runs ฿1,200 an hour for wing control, ฿1,500 once you are foiling and ฿9,500 for the eight-hour course; kitesurfing is ฿1,700 an hour, ฿2,400 for a 90-minute discovery, ฿5,600 for four hours and ฿10,000 for eight. SUP is ฿700 an hour, or ฿1,300 an hour for a group of three. Sailing lessons on a Hobie Wave are ฿1,200 an hour.
Once you can handle yourself the club switches to rental: a beginner windsurf set is ฿500 an hour or ฿1,100 for three, a kite with a twin-tip ฿1,200 an hour, a Hobie Wave ฿800, a SUP ฿300. First-time renters take an instructor along for the first hour — ฿500 for kite gear, ฿400 for the catamarans — and after that you are free to ride on your own. On the plot there are showers, a rigging area, gear storage, a repair service and the Onshore café, and the club site carries a live wind meter and a season guide, which is the sensible thing to look at before choosing which day to come.
