What is this tour like?

Two dives on Sail Rock (Hin Bai), the granite pinnacle between Samui and Phangan — the chimney swim-through, barracuda schools and regular whale shark sightings. From ฿4,650 per person, a full day of about 8 hours with hotel pickup at 07:45. Certified divers only.

Sail Rock rises from 40 metres to about 4 metres below the surface and sits roughly 50 minutes by speedboat from the operator's pier. Open Water divers work the upper pinnacle down to their 18-metre limit; Advanced and Deep certified divers can take the full 30 metres. Visibility is typically 15–30 m, and a thermocline is common below 25 m, so the centre recommends a 3 mm wetsuit.

The day runs to a fixed shape: hotel pickup between 07:45 and 08:30, departure from the Silent Divers pier at 09:00, about an hour to the site, the first dive with briefing from 10:00, lunch on board during the surface interval, the second dive at 12:30 and hotel drop-off by 15:30.

Hotel transfer, both dives, rental of all dive equipment, diving insurance, soft drinks and lunch on board (vegetarian and vegan options available) are in the price. Towels, swimwear and a dive computer are not. The trip runs on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, minimum age 10, and a valid Open Water certification is required.

FAQ

Do I need a diving certification for this trip?
Yes. This trip is for certified scuba divers only — you must hold a valid PADI Open Water Diver certification or the equivalent from another agency. Without one, the centre points beginners to its Discover Scuba Diving experience or the Open Water course.
How deep can an Open Water diver go at Sail Rock?
Open Water divers explore the upper pinnacle to their 18-metre limit; Advanced and Deep certified divers access the full 30 metres. The operator notes that the barracuda schools and whale sharks often show up in the shallower zone anyway.
How likely are whale sharks?
Whale sharks are present at Sail Rock through much of the year and sightings are common, but the operator does not guarantee them. Peak months are generally March–May and August–October; guides track real-time sightings and position the boat accordingly.
What is the chimney?
A vertical swim-through inside the pinnacle. The entrance sits at roughly 18 metres and the exit is near the top of the rock — the site's signature feature and one of the reasons Sail Rock is ranked among Thailand's top dive sites.
How far is Sail Rock from Samui?
About 50 minutes by speedboat from the Silent Divers pier. The rock lies between Koh Samui and Koh Phangan; the boat leaves the pier at 09:00 and the first dive starts at 10:00.
Which days does the trip run?
Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. The operator asks for booking at least 24 hours in advance to guarantee a place.
Is equipment included, or do I bring my own?
Rental of all dive equipment is included, and Nitrox fills are free for Enriched Air certified guests. A dive computer is not included, nor are towels and swimwear.
What is the water like — do I need a wetsuit?
Visibility is typically 15–30 metres and often more. A thermocline is common below 25 metres, so the centre recommends a 3 mm wetsuit: the upper reef is warm, but it is noticeably cooler at depth.
Can I fly the same evening?
No. The operator states the standard rule plainly: do not fly within 18 hours of your last dive. The boat is back on Samui between 14:30 and 15:30, so plan any flight for the following day.
What is the minimum age?
Ten. The trip is listed at minimum age 10+, with a full day of about eight hours and a maximum depth of 30 metres — but the certification requirement applies at any age.
