A catamaran afternoon on the south coast of Gran Canaria comes in two shapes: a seat on somebody else's boat, or the boat itself. Both are four hours, both anchor to swim, and the price difference between them is smaller than most people expect once a group grows past six.
Count from six people. Below six, tickets on a shared boat win by a wide margin; at eight the private yacht costs only €46 more, and at twelve it is already cheaper than seats on the shared one.

The €20 between the Princesa Ico and the Blue Spirit is not extra hours — both are four-hour days. It is the difference between a boat that carries up to 250 people and one that carries twelve. On the big catamaran the drinks are also sold on board in packs at €40 and €55, a sunbed is €10 and the 20-minute speedboat run to the caves is €10; on the small ones, lunch and drinks are already in the ticket.
The whole boat
The private Infinity yacht is €680 for four hours and up to eight people, with extra guests at €45 each to a maximum of twelve. It comes with a captain and guide, the same snorkel gear and paddle boards as the shared departure, and pickup and return from your hotel when booked in advance.

Below six the shared ticket wins by a wide margin. At eight the two are €46 apart — which is the real price of not sharing a deck with strangers. At twelve the private boat is actually cheaper, because the ninth to twelfth places cost €45 instead of €79.21.
Which shared boat for which group?
With small children
Princesa Ico: the child fare is €35 from 5 to 10 and under-fours travel free. Blue Spirit sets a minimum age of 10 and the Infinity child fare covers ages 1 to 10 at €55.
If you want a quiet deck
Blue Spirit or the Stingray — twelve people and a reduced group respectively, both with lunch and drinks in the price and a transfer from the southern resorts.
If you are hoping to see dolphins
Then a catamaran afternoon is the wrong purchase. Blue Spirit says on its page that it is not a dolphins or whales searching trip; the boats built for that are on the boat trips page, from €25 per person.
