Dolphin-Watching Excursion from Puerto Rico — Líneas Salmón (2 h)

Our trip was excellent, the crew very quickly located dolphins (you might have to search for a while) and we had about 20 minutes watching them. For some reason the boat then took us into a couple of small harbours, but they are not very special to look at, I would have preferred it if they just took us back after the dolphins. They'll take your photo as you enter the boat, and then offer to sell it to you later.

Dolphin-Watching Excursion from Puerto Rico — Líneas Salmón (2 h)

Wow, wow, wow... our 3-hour boat trip yesterday was amazing. We started by waiting for the morning trip to come in, and the 50 or so people looked unhappy (they hadn't seen anything at all), so when we boarded our boat, we didn't have high hopes for seeing any dolphins or whales. But the 16 people on our trip got lucky, and we got to see whales, a shoal of tuna up close, lots of flying fish.

Dolphin-Watching Excursion from Puerto Rico — Líneas Salmón (2 h)

This trip is an absolute must-do! We went dolphin searching, actually saw them, and got exactly what we paid for. The experience itself was wonderful and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The captain was a fantastic host who kept us all laughing over the intercom throughout the journey. I also highly recommend buying the photos and keychains they sell on board.

Dolphin-Watching Excursion from Puerto Rico — Líneas Salmón (2 h)

Today I had the chance to enjoy an incredible experience in Gran Canaria watching dolphins and even whales. Everything was perfect from the start: the animals were calm, just being themselves in their natural environment, and it was honestly amazing to see them up close. The dolphins were beautiful, and spotting whales as well made it even more special.

FAQ

Is the price per person or per boat?
Per person on every shared trip here, from €25 to €125. Only the private options are priced per boat: the Infinity yacht is €680 for up to eight people for four hours, with extra guests at €45 each up to twelve.
What do children pay?
It differs by boat and the age brackets are written into each ticket. Líneas Salmón: €25 for ages 6–12, free under 6. Princesa Ico: €35 for ages 5–10, free up to 4, adult fare from 11. Yellow Boat: €45 for ages 3–11, free under 3. Infinity: €55 for ages 1–10. Spirit of the Sea sells an adult fare from 12 and a child fare from 2 to 12, infants free.
Is a hotel transfer included?
Only on some. The Infinity yacht includes pickup and return when you book in advance, and the Atlántida submarine runs a free bus from the southern resorts on reservation. Líneas Salmón sells a bus seat at €4. Yellow Boat and Aqua Fun say nothing about transfers, so plan to reach Puerto de Mogán yourself.
When is the best season for a boat trip?
The south coast operates all year and none of these boats publishes a closed season. What changes is the sea state rather than the calendar, and the operators reserve the right to move a departure for safety. One boat does run to a fixed week: the Blue Spirit catamaran from Pasito Blanco, Monday to Friday, 12:30 to 16:30.
Will we definitely see dolphins or whales?
No, and no operator here promises it. The cetacean trips are searches with a guide on board: Líneas Salmón for two hours, Spirit of the Sea for two and a half. If you want a guaranteed look under the surface, the Atlántida submarine dives to an artificial reef of 350 structures, and Spirit of the Sea has a glass bottom.
What happens if the trip is cancelled for weather?
These operators confirm the sailing time when they accept a booking, and a departure can be moved if the sea makes it unsafe. None of these operators publishes a free-cancellation policy of its own, so ask us for the terms of your date before you pay — we get them in writing from the operator.

Which port do you leave from?

The first thing to settle is the harbour, because the island is long and the drive to the quay is part of the day. Puerto Rico is where the cetacean boats, the Princesa Ico catamaran and the Infinity yacht berth. Puerto de Mogán, twenty minutes further west, has the submarine, the Yellow Boat and the Aqua Fun yacht.

Líneas Salmón is the exception: the same dolphin excursion also leaves from Puerto de Mogán, Anfi del Mar and Arguineguín, so you can pick the port nearest your hotel.

Does the size of the boat change the price?

Princesa Ico takes up to 250 people and Spirit of the Sea up to 97 — big, stable, with a fixed timetable and a price to match. The Infinity yacht takes 12 and Aqua Fun 18, and the Yellow Boat runs in a small group too, which is why the cheaper of them still costs more per head than the catamaran: you are paying for the small group, not for extra hours.

What does the ticket actually cover?

Lunch, drinks and snorkelling kit are inside the ticket on some boats and sold on board on others, so the comparison is easier column by column:

BoatIn the ticketExtra on board
Yellow BoatLunch, drinks, snorkelling kit and photos in the €59
Princesa IcoLunch, as the excursion description puts itThe Basic drinks pack €40 and the Full Pack €55 with paella and banana boat, sunbeds €10, the 20-minute speedboat run to the caves €10
InfinityOpen bar and pickupJet ski, sea scooter and parasailing
Líneas Salmón€4 for the bus

Are the dolphins guaranteed?

Nobody sells you the animals. Dolphins are resident and often seen off the south coast, but every one of these trips is a search, not a delivery, and Blue Spirit does not count its catamaran as a cetacean tour at all. If seeing something under the surface matters more than the odds, the submarine and the glass-bottom hull show you a reef either way.

One more thing leaves the same Mogán waterfront and is not a boat trip at all: a four-hour sea kayak run into the Mogán caves at €65 per person.

Important

the transfer to the port is not included on every trip, so agree the ride to the quay when you book.
