The short version

Four of the five are eight-hour days, so plan a whole day rather than a morning; the glass boat is the short option.

Four of the five carry a marine park fee: it is collected on site at Cinderella, Shark Divers, Hero and Dive In, and Dive In also names a boarding fee; Horizon's glass boat has none. Ask the operator for the exact amount before you pay.

The five, cheapest first:

  • $13 — Horizon's glass boat tour: the reef seen through the hull, no mask and no swimming.
  • €25 — Shark Divers, a full day to White Island and Ras Mohammed.
  • $35 — Hero's yacht day into Ras Mohammed National Park.
  • €40 — Cinderella Eldawley, snorkellers to the four Tiran reefs, reduced from €50.
  • €45 — Dive In's full-day snorkelling boat at the web price against €50 on site, with lunch, fins and mask in the price.

Tiran Island Snorkelling Boat Trip

The trip me and my partner booked to Ras Mohammed has exceeded expectations. All the staff were incredible, you have everything you need for the day — drinks, teas and coffees, toilets — just bring a towel and sunscreen.

Tiran Island Snorkelling Boat Trip

We had an absolutely unforgettable trip to Ras Mohammed on the Joe boat. From the moment we stepped on board until the end of the day, everything was organized to perfection. The crew deserves the highest praise.

Tiran Island Snorkelling Boat Trip

Incredible team. I would go back the next day. We saw marvellous places and were all satisfied with the schedule. We even ate the food on the boat, which was great.

Full Day Snorkelling Boat Excursion

I don’t think I have dived from a fancier boat (apart from a livaboard) nor being cooked a delicious hot lunch in between dives. These guys are superb! The dive briefings were so clear I felt like I would know where I was going on my own.

FAQ

How long does a boat day last?
Eight hours for four of the five trips — Cinderella at Tiran, Dive In's snorkelling day, Shark Divers to White Island and Ras Mohammed, and Hero's Ras Mohamed yacht day. That is a full day out, not a morning. The glass boat is the short exception and does not state a fixed duration.
Is the marine park fee included?
No — four of the five charge it separately, and Horizon's glass boat has none at all. Cinderella charges park and jetty fees separately, Dive In charges boarding and marine park fees, Shark Divers and Hero collect the park fee on site. Shark Divers and Hero do not publish the amount, so we ask the operator and confirm it in writing before you book.
Do I need to be able to swim?
Not for the glass boat: you stay dry and look at the reef through the panel in the hull, which is why it works for small children and non-swimmers. The snorkelling days at Tiran, White Island and with Dive In do put you in the water over the reef. None of them requires a diving certificate.
Is snorkelling equipment provided?
Dive In includes fins and mask in its €45 day, together with lunch. Shark Divers state that snorkelling equipment is not listed as included in the €25 trip. The other operators do not name it either way, so we confirm it with them before the booking — bring your own mask if you have one.
Is there a hotel transfer?
Horizon states plainly that its glass boat price does not include one — you make your own way to the boarding point. Cinderella, Shark Divers, Hero and Dive In confirm the meeting point and time with the booking rather than listing a transfer, so we ask the operator on your behalf and put the answer in writing.

The glass boat is for people who do not want to get in the water at all — children, grandparents, non-swimmers — and at $13 it is the cheapest of the five. Snorkelling trips put you over the reef with a mask: Cinderella at Tiran, Shark Divers at White Island and Ras Mohammed, Dive In on its own day boat.

Can you dive with a tank on these trips?

Going under with a tank is diving rather than a boat trip — though Hero sells a version of its Ras Mohamed yacht day with an introduction dive, booked on its own, at $45 per person.

Where does the boat actually go?

Tiran means the four reefs of the strait — Jackson, Woodhouse, Thomas and Gordon — seen from the surface. Ras Mohammed is the national park at the southern tip of Sinai, where the reef wall drops into deep blue. White Island is a bare sandbank that appears and disappears with the tide, and Shark Divers pair it with Ras Mohammed in one day for €25.

Which of the three you pick matters more than which operator, because the price spread between them is €15 and the scenery is completely different.

What is on board, and what is not?

Dive In puts fins, mask and lunch in its price. On the €25 Shark Divers day, snorkelling gear is not part of the deal — bring your own mask from the hotel, or ask the crew for one before you sail.

Important

Horizon's two trips, the glass boat and the parasailing flight, include no hotel transfer at all — you reach the boarding point yourself.
