Boat trips from Gozo: what to know
Direct boat or cave tour?#
JoyRide Watersports runs every trip from the jetty at Hondoq Bay, under a big yellow umbrella. The direct boat to the Blue Lagoon costs €10 per adult and €5 per child and leaves several times a day between 9:00 and 18:00. The Comino & Cave Tour at €15 per adult (€7.50 per child) first spends about 20 minutes in the Santa Maria Caves — five caves, one of them where The Count of Monte Cristo was filmed — and then takes you to the Blue Lagoon; it runs between 8:30 and 19:00.
On both, you stay at the lagoon as long as you like and JoyRide sets the pick-up time on the day.
The private trip — who is it for?#
The 3-hour private trip covers Comino — the Blue Lagoon, St. Nicholas Bay, Santa Maria Bay and its caves, Elephants Rock, the Battery Tower, the Crystal Lagoon and its caves — plus parts of Gozo's coast: Hondoq Bay, Gebla tal-Halfa and Mġarr ix-Xini. It costs €300 per boat for up to 8 people, whatever the group size, and JoyRide describes it as the more laid-back trip, with plenty of time for swimming and snorkelling. For more than 8 people, JoyRide quotes on request.
Blue Lagoon ticket — do not skip it#
Important
JoyRide's fares do not include going ashore at the Blue Lagoon. To land there you need a separate visitor ticket, booked in advance; Hera Cruises notes that the number of daily passes is limited.
How do you get to Hondoq Bay?#
Hondoq Bay is in Qala on Gozo, with plenty of parking and a kiosk for food, drinks and ice cream. From Malta, the Gozo Channel Line ferry runs 24 hours a day, as Comino Ferries points out. JoyRide also runs its own boat transfers to Hondoq from Ċirkewwa on Malta and from Mġarr Harbour on Gozo; pick-up times are arranged by WhatsApp.
Rather drive yourself?#
JoyRide also rents self-drive boats at Hondoq Bay from €100 per boat for a 3-hour half day: fuel extra, driver 21 or older, €200 cash deposit. On Malta's main island, boat tours from Sliema head for Comino and the Blue Lagoon from €40 per adult with Luzzu Cruises.
