Kitesurfing and wing foiling in Hurghada: the schools, the hours and the prices

Three schools teach kite and wing around Hurghada, and the first thing that separates them is not method but map. One is on a resort beach south of the centre; the other two share a flat lagoon 20 to 30 kilometres north, on the road towards El Gouna. No transfer is listed in the price at any of the three, so the drive is the first line of your budget and the second question you should ask.

What does a kite lesson cost in Hurghada?

From €110 to €560, depending on how many hours you buy and how many people share the instructor.

What does that come to per hour?

Per hour that runs from €36.67 on the semi-private three-hour lesson at High Surf and €37.33 on the 15-hour course at Kite School Egypt to €60 on the two-hour intro and €50 on a private three-hour lesson. The short ones buy a decision, not a skill.

Private or shared?

A private lesson is €150 for three hours and a semi-private one €110, because the second student shares both the instructor and the time on the kite. The same logic runs through the eight-hour courses: €440 private against €360 shared. You are buying attention. Two friends learning together will spend more of the session on the beach watching, and that is not always wasted — but it is exactly what the €80 between the two eight-hour courses buys.

How many hours until you can ride?

The schools answer that with their own product names. Two hours is a taster: fly a kite on the beach and find out whether the sport is yours. Eight hours is a beginner course that ends with an IKO certificate. Fifteen hours over four days is the format Kite School Egypt calls ‘Ready to Kite’, and High Surf issues its IKO certificate free of charge on lessons of 12 to 15 hours. That is the honest bracket for leaving able to ride.

What about wind — and windless days?

Kite School Egypt states the policy plainly: unused course hours and days without wind are not charged. That is a real commitment and it is the reason a four-day course there carries less risk than the calendar suggests. The other two schools publish no wind policy; we put the question to them in writing before we take a multi-day booking rather than assume the answer.

What is included, and what is not?

At High Surf the price carries kite, board, harness, helmet and water booties, full insurance on the kite equipment, water and tea, plus 15% off gear rental and 20% off new Cabrinha and Crazy Fly kit afterwards. At Paradise it carries the same gear plus a walkie-talkie, kite insurance, the IKO certificate and 10% off rental.

Both put your travel insurance, accommodation, flights, meals and the entry visa outside the price, and High Surf specifically recommends a policy covering kiteboarding as an extreme sport. Kite School Egypt does not itemise its inclusions at all, and we say so rather than fill the gap in.

Is wing foiling worth an hour?

€70 buys one hour with wing, foil board, life jacket, helmet and water boots, a maximum of two students with the instructor, and insurance on the equipment. The table says it in words — ‘the price is per person only’. As a way to find out whether foiling suits you before committing to a 12-hour course, an hour is an honest unit.

Where exactly are the schools?

High Surf & Kite School is on the beach of Long Beach Resort, Sahl Hasheesh Road, south of central Hurghada, and confirms lesson times by WhatsApp. Paradise Kitesurf Red Sea is at the El Khayam complex in the lagoon between Hurghada and El Gouna. Kite School Egypt is at Palma Resort on the Ismaileya road, in the same lagoon. The two northern schools are 20 to 30 kilometres out of the city — plan the drive both ways.
