The most expensive mistake you can make booking a boat in Nha Trang is not choosing the wrong operator. It is reading a correct number in the wrong unit. Prices here are published in three different ways - per person, per boat and per session - and the marker that tells them apart is usually a single Vietnamese word after a slash.
The four words that decide the bill. khách - guest. người - person. thuyền - boat. du thuyền riêng - private yacht. A slash and one of these is the whole difference between a family price and a per-head price.
The clearest example in town
The VEGAYACHTS day sail prints both units in the same block: 28,000,000 VND / du thuyền riêng, and 2,330,000 VND / khách — about $1,077 for the yacht and $90 per guest. The first is the whole catamaran for your group; the second is one seat on it. Nothing about the day changes between them - only who is buying.
The same doubling of units appears at the other end of the price scale. Cam Ranh Boat Trip lists 890,000 VND /Thuyền (2 khách), about $34, for a sunrise or sunset run - per boat, capacity two - and on the neighbouring page 490,000 VND /khách, about $19, for the SUP outing, per guest. One website, two units, both spelled out.

Ranges are capacity ladders, not discounts
A second trap looks like a sale. The speedboat to Hon Mun is advertised at 1,900,000-4,900,000 VND (about $73-188), and the low end is not an early-booking price. The operator sets the tariff by tải trọng, the capacity band: 1-10 guests, 11-16, 17-20, 21-23, 24-35, 36-45. You pay the band your group falls into, and the note on the page - tùy số khách, according to the number of guests - says exactly that.
Where is the unit simply missing?
Not every page is explicit, and the honest thing to do is treat the silence as a question rather than an assumption. Vietnam Active's Nha Trang bay snorkelling trip shows $35 with no unit next to it; the day is a group format with a set lunch menu, which makes per person the only sensible reading, but the page does not say so.
The 40 USD snorkelling trip at divenhatrang.ru is in the same position. Both are ordinary market prices for a seat; both deserve one message to the operator before payment.
Lessons are priced a third way
Schools do not sell seats or hulls but sessions, and the unit shifts again with the format. Kiterabbit's price list puts an individual kitesurf hour at $55 and the group hour at $35 per person - the same lesson, two units, and the school writes both out.
FlyGuru charges 2,000,000 VND (about $77) for a 60-minute beginner eFoil session and lists a paired session separately at 3,500,000 VND (about $135), which is what tells you the base price covers one student.
Which unit is better value?
Neither in itself. Divide the per-boat price by the number of people who are actually coming, then compare. For two people a per-boat charter is almost always the worse deal; for eight it often is not.
Is VAT usually included?
Not always. Vietnam Fantastic lists VAT as not included on both of its day trips, and the Cam Ranh SUP outing lists 10 per cent VAT outside the price.
What does trọn gói mean on a price?
Package, all in. Dream Hills uses it on the night squid trip at 350,000 VND (about $13) per person, alongside a separate list of what is still excluded.
