Nha Trang bay is read from the shore as a single line of green humps, which hides the thing that matters when you book: the humps are at very different distances, and a boat programme is really a decision about how far out you are willing to go. Below, the islands in order of distance, with what it costs to reach each one.
Distance is the price. Hon Mun, the farthest of the standard stops, is 40-50 minutes from shore and 1,900,000-4,900,000 VND (about $73-188) for the boat; Hon Tam is 1,400,000-3,900,000 VND (about $54-150). A standard shared day covers two or three anchorages, not the whole bay.
Hon Mun: the outer reef
The farthest of the standard stops and the reason most people get on a boat at all. Vinh San Ho Nha Trang gives the crossing as 40-50 minutes from shore and prices a chartered speedboat to Hon Mun at 1,900,000-4,900,000 VND (about $73-188) for the boat, the range set by which capacity band you take.
On the shared trips it is the headline stop: Vuongland works three points around Hon Mun and Hon Mot for 600,000 VND (about $23) per person, and Vietnam Active's $35 day lists Hon Mun, Hon Tam and Dam Bay as its working area.
Being the farthest also makes it the first casualty of a swell. Vietnam Fantastic writes plainly that in bad weather the boat goes to the coral reef instead of Mun Island.
Hon Tam: closer, but is it only about snorkelling?
Hon Tam sits well inside the bay and costs less to reach - 1,400,000-3,900,000 VND (about $54-150) for a chartered boat on the same rate card. Of the islands named by the day trips, Hon Tam is the only one with a land programme published: the Deluxe Ocean Tour at $46 per pax puts the mud baths on Hon Tam into a day that otherwise runs 07:45 to 15:00 on the water.
Dam Bay and Hon Mot: the second and third anchorage
Neither is a destination on its own; both are what fills the middle of a boat day. The 40 USD trip run by divenhatrang.ru is built exactly on the pair Dam Bay plus Hon Mun, leaving the pier at 07:30 and returning around 13:00 with tea, coffee, fruit and lunch on a two-deck boat.
Dam Bay is also one of the dive sites Sailing Club Divers names in its 100 USD one-day, three-dive package, alongside Madonna Rock, Lobster Cave and the Ship Wreck.
Where else do the speedboats go?
The charter rate card is the clearest map of the bay anyone publishes, because every line is a real destination with a real price.

Past the bay: Monkey Island and Bounty beach
North along the coast the water opens onto a different set of names. The five-hour eFoil safari run by FlyGuru, 6,000,000 VND (about $231), runs to Monkey Island, a resort and the wild Bounty beach; the same school sells a two-hour guided run to Turtle Island for 3,500,000 VND (about $135).
Of the published Nha Trang programmes, it is the FlyGuru safari that reaches Monkey Island and Bounty, and there you get to the beach under your own power rather than as a passenger.
South: Cam Ranh bay
Forty kilometres down the coast, past the airport, the bay of Cam Ranh works on a smaller scale and much lower prices. A private boat-and-SUP outing from Dồi Cát Trắng to Bãi Dứa costs 490,000 VND (about $19) per guest for three to four hours, with the boat, a SUP board, a guide, life jacket, dry bag, photos, fruit and water in the price, and a group of up to six.
A sunrise or sunset run of 1.5-2 hours is 890,000 VND (about $34) for the boat, which the operator notes carries two guests.
How many islands fit in one day?
Two or three anchorages. Every shared programme in Nha Trang is built that way, and adding a fourth is what the full-day charter is for.
Which island is best for snorkelling?
Hon Mun is the one the operators name first, and it is a marine protected area. It is also the one that gets swapped out when the sea is rough, so ask what the alternative point is before you pay.
Is Hon Tam worth a separate trip?
Only if the mud baths interest you; as a snorkelling stop it is a supporting stop on a longer day rather than a destination.
