I almost do not want to write this review and let the secret get out on Scuba Tony! Had four relaxing and productive mornings of diving with Tony's crew. Each day we got out early and beat the crowds to the reef. In 7 of the 8 dives, we managed to avoid the many other dive boats and get some relative peace on the dives. They picked me up at the Allegro every day (I booked Allegro knowing this) promptly and a few minutes later I was underwater. The captains were friendly and helpful and the divemasters did a great job leading and spotting. During our one hour surface interval, we were provided drinks and snacks including the best guac I had on the island. Lastly, was happy to leave with my complimentary souvenir Scuba Tony water bottle. We had 4, 5 or 6 divers on each dive as promised. No cattle boats. The captain brings your gears and tank to you and helps you into your BCD and soon you do a backward roll and your wet. Getting out of the water is easy and you take off your BCD in the water and hand it to the captain as well as your fins and climb on board. I cannot recommend Scuba Tony more!
What is this tour like?
Diving in Cozumel is built around the two-tank trip, and this is ScubaTony's: two dives on the reefs of the National Marine Park from a small, fast boat. The shop sails every day at 7:30 am and 1:00 pm, and one trip takes four to five hours; the ride to the reef is usually under half an hour. The operator caps each boat at six divers — in its own words, any more than six is too crowded — and runs three boats to keep it that way.
The price is $135 per certified diver. It covers tanks, weights, the marine park fee, taxes, fresh fruit and sodas, purified water in a ScubaTony souvenir bottle, and a guide who is a PADI instructor or divemaster. Rental gear is not included: regulator, BCD, wetsuit, computer and light are $10 each, charged once a day rather than per trip, and mask, fins and snorkel are free. Book five or more trips and each costs $125. The boat's dive sites are chosen on board once everyone is there, from divers' requests, their level and the sea; the operator does not guarantee any particular site.
What are the highlights?
- No more than six divers per boat — the operator's own rule, and the reason it runs three small boats instead of one big one
- Early departures at 7:30 am; the reef is usually less than 30 minutes away
- Marine park fee, taxes, tanks and weights are already in the $135 — no separate fee on the boat
- Boat pick-up straight from the pier or beach of a dozen hotels inside the marine park
- Aqualung rental gear with integrated-weight BCDs; mask, fins and snorkel are free

- 7:30Boarding at Marina Fonatur or your hotel pier
The morning boat leaves at 7:30 am, the afternoon one at 1:00 pm. Divers staying north of the departure point board at Marina Fonatur; guests of the hotels on the operator's list inside the marine park are picked up by boat from their pier or beach.
- —Under half an hour to the reef
A small, fast boat with six divers at most. The site is picked on board once everyone is there, from divers' requests, their level and the conditions.
- —Into the water with your guide
The crew handles tanks and gear on board. Every group dives with a PADI instructor or divemaster, who is also your buddy if you came alone.
- —First tank: drifting along the reef
Cozumel dives are drift dives. The operator says the current is mild most of the time, about one knot, and that if it is too strong the boat goes to another site.
- —Between the dives
Fresh fruit, sodas and purified water in the ScubaTony bottle you keep. The captain changes your tank for the second dive.
- —Second tank on another reef
A second site inside the National Marine Park, which the operator says holds more than 20 dive sites. The captain follows the group's bubbles and picks you up when you surface.
- —Back after four to five hours
The whole trip takes four to five hours. The bill is settled in cash, in dollars or pesos, on your last diving day.

“Been coming to Cozumel for more than 20 years, ScubaTony has always been the best. Attention to the details. Not the cheapest shop, but there is a lot more than just transportation to the reefs. Small boats allow you the freedom to go to different places everyday. Surface intervals with fresh guacamole, salsa, and mangos... Warm water rinsing after each dive. Ice cold water and drinks all the time. This trip we ran into another diver we met here almost 20 years ago and still diving 🤿 with ScubaTony also.”
“We had 3 family dives with Scuba Tony this week. Our first dive was a refresher (we had not been diving in almost a year), and then we did 2 additional half day dives. Our guides were Cris, Israel, and Renata. They were wonderful. We are fairly new to scuba and our 14 and 12 year old children were joining us. As a parent, this can be quite overwhelming, but the guides expertise, professionalism, and care made this the most enjoyable dive experience of our lives! The visibility was outstanding and the biodiversity was like nothing we have seen before. I highly, HIGHLY recommend Scuba Tony for your scuba needs while visiting Cozumel.”
“An extraordinary experience, 15 out of 10. I enjoyed it enormously, and with the professionalism of someone who has mastered their job and enjoys it, they made sure I enjoyed it to the full too. I only have words of thanks, and if I come back to Cozumel it will without a doubt be with you that I dive again. From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for showing me the fauna and flora of Cozumel's seabed with the fish, lobsters, crabs and that impressive turtle. Thank you and thank you.”
