What is this tour like?

This is the slow version of a Krabi sunset trip. Sri Su Pai 1 is a wide-beam junk-style boat built in the style of the wooden sailing ships that once worked these waters, with a shaded lounge, seating inside and out, free WiFi, a cocktail bar, fresh-water showers and a proper toilet. A second boat, Sri Su Pai 2, acts as tender and runs guests to and from the beaches.

The course takes in Poda Island, Tup Island, Chicken Island and the coastline of Phra Nang Beach and Railay Bay. Between 15:00 and 17:00 there is time to swim, snorkel with the gear and guidance provided, or paddle the transparent-hull kayak. Dinner — a seafood BBQ with Thai dishes, and mango with sticky rice as dessert — is served from 17:00 while the boat cruises west of the Railay peninsula. Sunset is at 18:00, then a fishing rod comes out, and the plankton swim runs from 19:00.

The cruise costs ฿3,200 per adult and ฿2,200 per child aged four to twelve; infants under four are free. It is a join-in trip with a maximum of 32 guests on board and a minimum of ten bookings for it to sail. Air-conditioned van transfer is included from Ao Nang, Klong Heng, Krabi Town, Klong Muang and Tub Kaek; guests on the Railay peninsula are collected by boat from Railay East Pier. The national park fee is paid to the ranger when he boards. The park's published rate for these islands is ฿400 per adult and ฿200 per child; the operator states ฿200 and ฿100, so confirm the amount when you book.

FAQ

Which days does it run?
Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. It also needs at least ten confirmed bookings to sail; if that is not reached the cruise is cancelled with 24 hours' notice and refunded in full.
Is there a toilet on board?
Yes — a western toilet and fresh-water showers, which is rare on a Krabi day boat and the practical reason many people choose a junk over a longtail for a six-hour evening.
Will we see the plankton?
Sometimes. The operator says plainly that bioluminescence is never guaranteed — it is typically seen around full moon, and even then conditions do not always oblige.
How many people are on board?
Up to 32. This is a join-in cruise, not a charter; Krabi Sea Cruise also runs private charters of the same boat for weddings and parties.
How much for two adults and a six-year-old?
฿8,600 (about $240) for the cruise: two adults at ฿3,200 plus a child at ฿2,200. The national park fee is added on board. The park's published rate for these islands is ฿400 per adult and ฿200 per child; the operator states ฿200 and ฿100, so confirm the amount when you book.
