The first thing to be clear about is the price. ฿12,000 buys the boat, not a seat on it. Two people pay ฿12,000 between them; a third adult adds ฿2,300 and a child aged four to twelve ฿1,700. Written that way, a party of four adults comes to ฿16,600 in all, or about ฿4,150 each.
The Hong group lies between Ao Nang and Phang Nga Bay, and the scenery there is wilder than in the 4 Islands area — more limestone, more jungle, mangroves and lagoons. The route takes in Koh Deang, where the snorkelling is over hard corals and anemones; Pakbia, joined to Rai Island by a white sandbank; Rai itself, where the Thai buffet is laid out on the beach; Koh Lading, the hidden bay under the cliffs; and finally Hong Island's beach and the lagoon inside it.
Because the boat is private, the itinerary is adjusted to what you want to do. The base trip runs 11:00 to 18:00 and costs ฿12,000 for two. For ฿13,500 the day adds the 4 Islands and sunset at Phra Nang Beach; for ฿16,000 it also adds the night snorkel among bioluminescent plankton and ends at 20:00.
