I went on a full-day paddling tour through Ao Thalane with them, and it was an amazing experience. I was lucky to have Mr. A as my guide. He was attentive, easygoing, and shared lots of interesting information throughout.

What is this tour like?

Ao Thalane is a bay north of Ao Nang where a sea inlet runs inland between limestone walls and branches into mangrove channels. Sea Kayak Krabi has been paddling it since 1995 and calls itself the first eco-tourism and adventure operator in Krabi province; the company's base sits at Khao Thong, on the water.

The operator sells the route in two lengths. The half day covers the mangrove forest, the caves and the cliffs. The full day adds lunch and more time on the water. How deep into the mangrove a group actually gets depends on the tide — guests who paddled at high water describe channels that close over your head, and guests who came at low water describe turning back halfway.

The operator's page lists the amounts without saying whether they are per person or per kayak, so we confirm the unit and the exact departure with the operator before your booking is final.

Level
No skill needed; sheltered bay, guided groups.
What to bring
Sun protection, mosquito repellent, water shoes and a dry bag. The route depth depends on the tide, so a low-water slot is a shorter route.

FAQ

What does the operator publish as the price?
The package page lists «Half Day: 900-1,200 ฿» and «Full Day: 1,500-1,800 ฿ (lunch included)». It does not say whether that is per paddler or per kayak, so we confirm the unit with the operator before you pay.
Why is the price a range and not one number?
The operator publishes it that way. We ask for the exact amount for your date and group before the booking is confirmed.
Do I need kayaking experience?
No. Ao Thalane is sheltered water and the trips run with guides; guests describe two-seat kayaks and a relaxed pace.
How long is it?
Half day or full day — the operator sells both. The full day is the one with lunch.
Does the tide matter?
Yes, a lot. Reviews from the same operator describe deep channels at high water and a turn-back halfway at low water. Ask for a slot near high tide when you book.
Where does it start?
At the operator's base, 74/6 Moo 3 Khao Thong, Mueang Krabi — about half an hour by road from Ao Nang.
What language do the guides speak?
English is the language the operator's own page and its guests describe. We do not claim more than that.
When is the season?
Krabi's dry season runs November to April. Ao Thalane is sheltered water and is paddled outside those months too, but rain and wind can move a departure.

“This was my fourth time kayaking here, and luckily for me, the water levels were high! This allowed us to paddle deep into the mangrove forest on a crystal-clear and wonderfully peaceful route.”

“Super kayak tour with a guide who explains things. Unfortunately it was low tide and we could not paddle the whole area. It was impressive and beautiful anyway — the rocks, the mangroves, the nature.”
