What is this tour like?
PADI Discover Scuba Diving is an introduction to the underwater world for anyone over 10 in reasonable physical health; no scuba experience is needed. Paradise Diving runs it at Cirkewwa, in the very north of Malta, from its centre at the Paradise Bay Resort Hotel, 10 m from the sea.
It is not a certification course. You go over the equipment you are about to use, learn a few key skills and basic safety guidelines in a confined environment, then make a dive on the centre's own house reef, swimming around and exploring. All diving equipment is loaned free of charge, and no learning materials are needed. On site there is a sheltered bay in front of the centre, three outdoor pools, an indoor pool and a classroom.
Children from 10 receive a junior version of any qualification, which converts to adult status on their 15th birthday. If you want to continue, the next step is the PADI Scuba Diver course (€350), and later the upgrade to Open Water Diver (€235).
