Koh Samui is a diving island by proximity rather than by its own reef. The water people come for sits an hour or so offshore: Sail Rock between Samui and Phangan, and the sites around Koh Tao.
Three Samui operators run the days we book — two dives on the Gulf's signature pinnacle at ฿4,650 (≈ $129), a first dive with no certificate at ฿5,900 (≈ $163), and a snorkelling seat on a dive boat at ฿2,900 (≈ $80).
Below: what each day costs, how deep you actually go, what you have to hold to get on the boat — and what has to be confirmed with the operator separately.
What does diving from Koh Samui cost in 2026?
Between ฿2,900 (≈ $80) and ฿5,900 (≈ $163) per person for a full day. All three days include hotel transfer and lunch, and none of them carries a park fee, so the ticket price is close to the total you spend.
- Snorkelling from the dive boat, Member Diving — ฿2,900 (≈ $80) per participant.
- Sail Rock, two dives, Silent Divers — ฿4,650 (≈ $129) per person.
- Try Scuba Diving at Koh Tao, The Life Aquatic — ฿5,900 (≈ $163) per person.
The beginner day is the dearest of the three because it buys instruction: the price includes the certification fee, the training material and an instructor who takes a maximum of two students.
Sail Rock: the Gulf's signature dive
Sail Rock — Hin Bai — is a granite pinnacle standing alone in open water between Samui and Koh Phangan. It rises from 40 metres to about 4 metres below the surface, and it is roughly 50 minutes by speedboat from the Silent Divers pier.

The chimney and the 18-metre line
The site's signature feature is a vertical swim-through inside the rock. You enter at about 18 metres and come out near the top of the pinnacle.
That number matters, because it is also the ceiling for an Open Water diver. Open Water certification works the upper pinnacle down to 18 metres; Advanced and Deep certified divers take the full 30. The operator's own note is that the barracuda schools and the whale sharks often turn up in the shallower zone anyway.
What actually swims there
Silent Divers lists chevron barracuda, bigeye trevally, jacks, queenfish, moray eels, boxfish and batfish. The barracuda are the reliable spectacle: dense, slow-turning schools that hold around the pinnacle.

Important
whale sharks are present at Sail Rock through much of the year and sightings are common, but the operator does not guarantee them. Peak months are generally March–May and August–October, and the guides track live sightings and position the boat accordingly.
How the day runs
Pickup is between 07:45 and 08:30, the boat leaves the pier at 09:00, the first dive starts at 10:00 with the briefing, lunch is eaten on board during the surface interval, the second dive is at 12:30, and you are back at your hotel between 14:30 and 15:30. About eight hours door to door, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

The ฿4,650 (≈ $129) covers both dives, hotel transfer, rental of all dive equipment, diving insurance, soft drinks and lunch on board with vegetarian and vegan options. Towels, swimwear and a dive computer are not included. Nitrox fills are free if you are certified for Enriched Air. Minimum age is ten, and a valid Open Water card or equivalent is required.
Your first dive: Koh Tao without a certificate
The Life Aquatic runs the beginner version out of Fisherman's Village in Bophut: two supervised dives to a limit of 12 metres at a Koh Tao site, no certification and no experience needed, ฿5,900 (≈ $163) per person.
The ratio is the part worth paying for — a maximum of two students per instructor. Theory and equipment come first, then the instructor is alongside you on both dives.

The day: pickup at 08:00–08:15, the centre's own speedboat to Koh Tao from 09:00 to 10:30, the first dive at 10:30, lunch at 11:30, the second dive at 12:30, back from 14:00 and at the hotel between 15:30 and 16:00.
Tip
ask for the free SSI Basic Diver upgrade. It costs nothing extra, and if you start an Open Water Diver course within six months your first open water dive counts as one of the required training dives.
Koh Samui snorkeling without a tank: a place on the dive boat
Member Diving, a Swiss-managed and German-speaking centre in Bophut, sells a snorkelling place on the boat it runs for its divers. It is not a separate excursion: you go where the divers go — the Marine Park, Koh Tao or Sail Rock — and float above the same site while they are below.
฿2,900 (≈ $80) per participant, lunch included, with a free hotel transfer from Bophut, Chaweng, Bangrak and Choengmon; other areas of Samui are on request. Booking goes through the centre's contact form rather than its online widget.

It is the honest answer for a mixed group. The centre's own day-trip dive prices on that same boat are ฿4,950 (≈ $137) for Sail Rock, ฿5,150 (≈ $143) for Koh Tao and ฿5,650 (≈ $157) for Chumphon Pinnacle with Koh Tao — one day, two dives each. Snorkelling on the same hull is ฿2,900 (≈ $80).
If you would rather not be tied to the divers' schedule, the same centre runs a private snorkelling and beach tour to Koh Madsum — Pig Island — and the reef off Koh Taen at ฿3,999 (≈ $111) per person, minimum four and maximum sixteen participants, 07:45 pickup and back at the resort by 15:00.

Sail Rock or Koh Tao — which day?
They answer different questions. Sail Rock is one site dived twice and it is the better dive; Koh Tao is where you learn what breathing underwater is like. The snorkelling seat is the cheapest way to see any of it.
| Day | Operator | Price per person | Depth | Who it is for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Snorkelling from the dive boat | Member Diving | ฿2,900 (≈ $80) | Surface | Non-divers travelling with divers |
| Sail Rock, two dives | Silent Divers | ฿4,650 (≈ $129) | 18 m Open Water, 30 m Advanced | Certified divers, from age 10 |
| Try Scuba at Koh Tao | The Life Aquatic | ฿5,900 (≈ $163) | 12 m, both dives | First-timers, no certificate, from age 10 |
One useful cross-check from The Life Aquatic's own list: certified divers on its boat pay ฿5,000 (≈ $139) for the two-dive Koh Tao day and ฿4,700 (≈ $130) for the Sail Rock day. The ฿5,900 (≈ $163) beginner ticket is the same day plus teaching.
Season, visibility and the rules that do not bend
Silent Divers puts visibility at Sail Rock at typically 15–30 metres and often more. A thermocline is common below 25 metres, so the centre recommends a 3 mm wetsuit: the upper pinnacle is warm, the bottom of the dive is noticeably cooler.
Important
do not fly within 18 hours of your last dive. Both dive operators state it plainly. The Sail Rock boat is back on Samui between 14:30 and 15:30 and the Koh Tao day ends by 16:00, so a same-evening flight is out — plan it for the next day.
Minimum age is ten on both dive days. Silent Divers asks for booking at least 24 hours ahead to guarantee a place, and The Life Aquatic asks you to read its medical questionnaire before you sign up.
What should you confirm when you book?
- Boat capacity. None of the three states how many guests are on board, so ask before you pay if a small boat matters to you.
- Times for the snorkelling place. Member Diving publishes no departure or return time for it — the answer depends on which of the three destinations the boat is running that day.
- Snorkelling gear on that seat. The page lists lunch and the transfer and says nothing about mask and fins. The centre sells and rents sets at its shop in Bophut.
All three are on the Samui diving page, and the sea days that are not about tanks are on the Samui boat tours page. Write to us in WhatsApp with your dates — we book direct with the operator, at the operator's price.
