Paragliding happens furthest from the southern resorts of anything on this coast: both schools work above Las Palmas, at the opposite end of the island from Maspalomas, and both fly the long urban beach of Las Canteras. The flight itself is a two-seater: you sit in front, the pilot flies, and no experience is asked of you.

The wind sets the launch, not the address. The address the school publishes is its office; both operators confirm the exact meeting point and time when they accept the booking, and the flight can move within the day.

The €70 flight is described as a tandem with a certified pilot from the take-offs above the city, flying the Las Canteras coast. The flight from €80 is a panoramic two-seat flight along the same coast with photos included and no previous experience needed.

Why does neither publish a fixed launch?

Because the wind decides. Both operators confirm the exact meeting point and time when they accept the booking, and the address they publish is the school, not the hill you will take off from. That is normal for the sport and it is also the reason a flight can move within the day.

What is worth clarifying before you pay?

Photographs. On the €80 flight they are named as part of the price; on the €70 one the product page does not specify them, so agree it with the pilot in advance if images matter to you. Despegue Parapente also offers two longer formats — one with manoeuvres and video, one with pickup and video — but publishes no price and asks you to enquire, so ask the school for a figure for your date.

Getting there

Neither school includes a transfer. From Maspalomas that is close to the length of the island, so treat the flight as its own outing and give it a day with Las Canteras and the old town of Las Palmas in it. Most of what Gran Canaria sells on the water — boats, jet skis, the try dives — is in the south around Puerto Rico, Mogán and Maspalomas; the exceptions are on the east coast, where Davy Jones dives the El Cabrón reserve at Arinaga and Pozowinds teaches wingfoil at Pozo Izquierdo.

How long is the flight?

Neither school publishes one, because the flight time depends on the wind of the day. The pilot confirms the plan for your conditions when the meeting point is agreed.

Can children fly?

Both flights are sold for a single passenger and neither school publishes a minimum age. We ask the school for your case before booking rather than assume.

What if the weather does not cooperate?

The pilot moves the launch or the hour; if a flight cannot be made safely, it is rescheduled with the operator. Ask us for the terms attached to your date before payment.
