What is this tour like?
A sailing catamaran day to Catalina with two snorkelling sites — The Wall and The Aquarium — a guide in the water with you and lunch cooked on board. $139 per person from Bayahibe.
The day starts at The Wall, an underwater cliff that drops more than twenty metres into clear water, and continues at The Aquarium, a site the operator describes as rich in marine life and coral. Fins, mask and snorkel are provided, and a guide swims with the group rather than watching from the boat — the operator presents this as the point of difference from a standard dive-boat trip.
Lunch is served on the catamaran between the two halves of the day: salads, avocado, pasta, chicken, beef, fruit and rosé wine. After eating there is free time to snorkel again, swim, or go ashore onto the white sand.
The return runs along the rocky coast of La Romana past the villas of Casa de Campo. Transfer from hotels in the Bayahibe area is included; from other areas the operator agrees an additional charge by email before the trip.
Quetzal also sell a combination: Saona and Catalina together for $268, which the operator presents as a saving of $30 per person against buying the two days separately.
