We hired a speedboat for visiting the Hong Islands around Krabi. We got a fantastic day that we'll not forget. Everything was so smooth and relaxed — the islands are wonderful and our guide was great.
What is this tour like?
Phi Phi is a long way out from Krabi, which is why almost everyone goes on a shared boat. Chartering the hull instead changes two things: nobody else sets the schedule, and the day can run anywhere from four to eight hours rather than a fixed group timetable.
This is the entry hull in the operator's charter table — one engine, ten seats — at ฿14,000 (about $388) for the Phi Phi route. The same table prices other destinations from the same boat: the 4 Islands at ฿11,000, Hong Islands at ฿12,000, Bamboo Island at ฿13,000, Koh Yao at ฿16,000 and James Bond Island at ฿17,000. If your group is larger, the table continues into 20-, 25-, 30-, 35- and 45-seat hulls.
Departure is at 08:00. Hotel transfers from Krabi Town, Ao Nang and Klong Muang, a local guide, insurance, fruit, drinking water, life jackets and snorkel masks are included; meals are not, and the national park fee of ฿400 per adult and ฿200 per child is paid separately.
