Bali, Indonesia · IDR 3,450,000 per person for 3 dives, certified divers, from 2 divers; equipment, boat and lunch included
Had one of the best dives I ever experienced with the team of Bali Fun Diving. The admin staff are friendly and the dive master team are capable and professional in ensuring safety. Uda, the dive master for my dives, he did a traditional Balinese prayer on our boat ride out in the morning, praying for safety and good dives. The prayer worked! As the ocean is not a zoo with confirmed animals sighting, am I glad that I'm blessed to have close encounters with multiple manta rays - they were giant yet gentle and friendly creatures. Really enjoyed the dives!
What is this tour like?
Bali Fun Diving is a dive centre on Jl. Tukad Balian in Sanur, a few minutes from the harbour. Its Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan day trip is for certified divers: 3 dives from a speedboat, with sea and land transport, equipment, lunch and snacks, for IDR 3,450,000 per person. That price applies from 2 divers; a single diver is asked to check whether there is a shared trip that day. The islands sit on a strong ocean current, which brings big fish and good visibility and also makes the diving demanding. The operator recommends the Advanced Open Water level; some sites are reserved for divers with 30–100+ logged dives.
Manta Point is dived all year: it is a cleaning station, and a regular dive can bring 7–8 mantas. It lies on the southern side facing the Indian Ocean, and the operator is frank that whether you can jump in is only decided on arrival, depending on the swell. The mola-mola season is given as July to October, best in September and October, while the Crystal Bay description says August to October. In those months the water is colder, 16–21°C. The crew picks the sites on the day and may skip one if conditions are unsafe.
What are the highlights?
- Manta Point, a year-round cleaning station where a regular dive can bring 7–8 mantas
- Mola-mola season from July to October, with Crystal Bay as a classic spot
- 3 speedboat dives in a day, with lunch and drinks on board
- Small groups: 1 guide for at most 2 or 3 divers, depending on experience
- Hotel transfer included around Sanur, Denpasar, Legian and Seminyak

- 07:00Hotel pickup and the dive centre
Pickup between 7:00 and 7:30 am. The dive centre is 5 minutes from Sanur harbour; divers prone to seasickness are advised to take a pill after breakfast.
- —Speedboat across the Badung Strait
The crossing from Sanur takes around 45 minutes according to one page and 50 minutes according to the itinerary. The operator warns it is rarely a flat ride, especially towards the southern sites.
- —Manta Point
A cleaning station where mantas come all year; the sandy bottom also has turtles, nurse sharks and blue-spotted rays. Whether you can jump in is decided on site, depending on swell and wind.
- —With the mantas
The rule is simple: do not chase or touch them. Hover calmly and they sometimes come to you; the operator suggests pre-focusing a camera at 1–1.5 m.
- —Crystal Bay and the mola-mola
Visibility can reach 30–40 m+ on a good day, over dense corals and a drop-off. In season, one of the best spots to look for the mola-mola; the operator gives the season as July to October in one place and August to October in another.
- —A third dive, lunch and the ride back
The third dive is often on a reef such as SD Point, Toyapakeh or Mangrove, with turtles and dense corals; lunch, water and refreshments are served on board. The boat is back on Sanur beach around 16:00, and you are at your hotel around 16:30, depending on traffic.
