They were also able to arrange transportation to and fro which made learning very convenient. What is this tour like?
Let's Dive Tulamben is a dive centre in Tulamben, a village on the north-east coast of Bali where the dives start from the beach. Its beginner dives are the PADI Discover Scuba Diving program for people who have never dived or are not certified. Before you gear up, your dive master briefs you on mask clearing, the BCD and regulator, hand signals and safety; on a first dive, or if you want a refresher, you practise these skills in a pool or in water with pool-like conditions. Every beginner has their own dive master for the entire dive. The operator recommends a second dive: the first is mostly about getting comfortable with the gear, the second lets you actually enjoy the dive.
The main site is the USAT Liberty, a United States army cargo ship built in 1918. It was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine in the Lombok Strait in 1942, towed to Bali and left on the shore at Tulamben; tremors from the 1963 eruption of Mount Agung pushed it into the sea. Today the 120 m hull lies on its side 25 m off the rocky beach, from 3 m to about 30 m deep, covered in corals, sponges and sea fans, with bigeye trevally, sweetlips, batfish and regular turtles. Beginner dives may also go to the Coral Garden, and the Drop Off is used for a third dive only. The price is IDR 650,000 per person for 1 dive, IDR 1,200,000 for 2 and IDR 1,600,000 for 3 in a single day, with equipment, lunch, photos and videos included. Allow from 2 hours up to 6 hours, depending on the number of dives.
