We did our first 2 hours lesson on windsurfing here at Matas Bay. First we did some practice close to the shore and afterwards we took the jetski to get more into the ocean for some more/stronger wind! We had such a good time and it was so much fun, thanks a lot! We can highly recommend.

Windsurfing taught on the flat water of Matas Blancas, at the northern end of Sotavento, on high-volume beginner boards with light Freetime sails. Two hours of tasting the sport is €60 per person; the three-hour beginner course is €85, six hours over two days €165 and nine hours over three days €195, each with two hours of free equipment rental on top. The ladder is built around a single lesson length. "WS Probar" is two hours for €60 per person, taught in groups of three to five on BIC boards with Freetime sails, and covers spot information, balance exercises, rigging the gear, meteorology, sailing exercises, steering and the wind directions. It has one quirk worth knowing before you book: if only two people turn up for it, the school shortens the lesson to one hour.
Above it, three beginner courses share the same programme at growing length. Three hours is €85, six hours as two sessions of three is €165, and nine hours as three sessions of three is €195 — all taught in groups of up to six on Tabou Cool Rider boards with Gaastra Freetime sails, and all with two hours of windsurf equipment rental included so you can go out on your own between sessions. The same per-head rule applies to these as to the taster: a single participant is given one hour a day, two participants two hours a day.
The private lesson is an hour for €90, rising to €99 an hour in July and August. It is aimed at both ends of the range — learning from nothing, or fixing the jibe, the power jibe, the harness, the beach start or the waterstart — and it is the only product on the page that includes a transfer between Matas Bay and your hotel, plus an hour of free equipment rental.
Once you have basic control, or straight after a beginner course, the rental fleet opens up: Patrik and Tabou boards from 87 to 145 litres and Gun Sails, Point 7 and other rigs from 3.2 to 8.6 square metres. From June to September a Patrik Freeride is €40 an hour, €70 a day and €130 for two days, with the Cross and carbon kit at €50, €80 and €150; in July and August the rates rise to €45/€80/€150 and €60/€90/€170. The school's own headers overlap on those two seasons, so check which rate applies to your dates when you book. Rental includes board and sail, harness and wetsuit, and as many equipment changes as you like; insurance is not included.
The base is fifteen metres from the water, opens 10:00–17:30 and moves to 9:30–16:30 in winter. If the wind fails at your lesson time, the session is rescheduled to another hour or the next day, and stand-up paddle is free that day.
What are the highlights?
- Flat water with a minimum depth of 1.5 m in a bay that does not depend on the tide
- Every beginner course adds two hours of free equipment rental to practise on your own
- The private hour includes a transfer between the station and your hotel
- High-volume Tabou Cool Rider boards with light Gaastra Freetime sails for the first days
- On windless days the school hands out SUP boards instead

“I did three sessions of three hours. Starting from nothing, I learned to windsurf decently. Excellent instructors, location and equipment. Fair prices. And there is a friendly dog you can stroke.”
“This was my second year in a row at the Matas Bay surf centre and once again I am completely won over. The choice of equipment is great, whether you want to push hard or freeride in a relaxed way. The instructors are all extremely friendly and very helpful.”
“On the spot: flat water for every kind of watersport. With no waves to speak of (20 cm) it is ideal for beginners and improvers. The beach is small and stony, and walking to the water barefoot is so-so. On the station: the quality and choice of equipment is very limited.”
