Kitesurf Course in the Sotavento Lagoon — René Egli, Two Students per Instructor

Fuerteventura, Spain · 3h · up to 2 guests · €205 per person for a three-hour course block, two students per instructor · EN
I had a fantastic experience completing a 12-hour kitesurfing course. I had taken a short kitesurfing course about 10 years ago, but remembered very little, so I was essentially starting again as a beginner. One of the biggest advantages here is the lagoon. Learning in shallow, flat water feels much safer and more comfortable than starting directly in the open sea with waves.
What is this tour like?
A course in blocks of three hours at the René Egli centre on Playa Sotavento, taught two students to an instructor in the shallow tidal lagoon the school holds an exclusive licence for, or in the sea with jet-ski support. €205 per person for 3 h, rising to €750 for the full 12-hour course; board, kite, accessories and equipment insurance are included, and you need to be at least 15 and 50 kg.
The unit here matters more than the number. René Egli sells kiting by the course, in blocks of three hours: 3 h is €205, 6 h split as 2×3 h is €395, 9 h as 3×3 h is €585, and 12 h as 4×3 h is €750. Every one of those figures is per person, and the group size is fixed at two students per instructor — so €205 is not an hourly rate and not a price for the pair.
The centre runs four levels and you choose the one that matches you: A1 covers equipment knowledge and kite control, A2 body drag and the first waterstarts, F1 improving the waterstart and riding, F2 controlled riding and going upwind. Instruction happens either in the tidal lagoon in front of the centre — shallow, flat and licensed to the school — or out in the sea with a jet ski standing by. Instructors are licensed and multilingual, and the school guarantees English.
Everything you sail with is in the price: board, kite and accessories per person, plus wetsuit, life-vest and helmet, plus equipment insurance. There is a level check to obtain an international licence. Two things sit next to the course rather than inside it: the Advanced Pool, which is supervised rental for practising upwind riding at four people per instructor (3 h €160, 6 h €285, 9 h €390), and private lessons at one person per instructor, two hours for €240 without kite equipment or €270 with board, kite and accessories.
The school asks you to pre-book the dates you want well in advance, and a transfer of the invoice amount one week before arrival takes 5% off; without it the on-site price stands. All courses are subject to the weather and to how fast you learn.

“A great center in a beautiful location! It was my first time kitesurfing, and I took the beginner's course for four days. With Mike as my patient and humorous instructor, I learned quickly and made progress. And I had a lot of fun! The safety service with the jet skis worked well and the team was very attentive.”
“The kite course worked out very well for me. In summer you should think about booking in advance — quite a few people do turn up on the day. And if the instructors say there is too much or too little wind, trust them.”
“I spent two days in March in the Advanced Pool with rented equipment at the René Egli kitesurfing centre and I am completely won over. I felt looked after the whole time — the moment you need help in the water or lose the board, somebody is there on the jet ski.”
“This feedback is meant as a suggestion, not a complaint. The station is still solid, but compared with earlier years it has, for me, lost a lot of its former top level. Beforehand I had asked about a combined wing/windsurf offer.”
