What is this tour like?
The windsurf school at the René Egli centre on Playa Sotavento teaches from 8 years up, at most six students to an instructor, in the shallow tidal lagoon it holds an exclusive licence for or in the sea with jet-ski support. A 2-hour taster is €85, the 8-hour beginner A-course €265, the 4-hour refresher €190 and a private hour €120 without equipment or €135 with; boards come from JP and Starboard and sails from Severne.
The school sells a ladder of courses rather than hours. The A/K taster runs two hours for €85. The A-course — the real beginner course, covering equipment, starting, board control, steering and tacking — is eight hours split as four sessions of two, for €265. The K-course is the same length for children of 8 to 12, taught with age-appropriate methods on child-friendly boards and sails, and costs €220. The A1 refresher course is four hours as 2×2 h for €190 and takes you through upwind sailing, zig-zagging, the fast tack, the jibe, the beach start and the harness.
Above that sit the F-courses, bookable to fit your own timetable: F1 is the waterstart, F2 the planing position and footstraps, F3 riding through shore break, speed and the power jibe. Each is two hours for €98, and F2 and F3 can be combined into a four-hour package for €170 once you have the waterstart. Private tuition is one hour, €120 if you bring your own equipment and €135 if the centre provides it, and it can be booked at any level.
What is included depends on which rung you pick, and this is the part worth reading twice. Equipment and its insurance are inclusive on the taster, the A-course, the K-course and the A1 course, and the accessories — wetsuit and harness — come with the A, K and A1 courses. On the F-courses equipment is exclusive, which is why they are cheaper per hour. For practice between lessons, participants in the K, A and A1 courses can buy an hourly rental ticket: four hours €90, six €125, ten €200, with wetsuit, harness and equipment insurance in the price and a choice of a JP Explorer or a Starboard Go or Start, subject to availability.
One caution about the unit. The windsurf table is headed simply "prices on site", where the centre's kite and wing tables both say "p.p."; the school also states that a course holds at most six students per instructor. Read the figures as course prices, and confirm at the windsurf desk () how a second participant is charged before you count on a total.

“Extremely friendly people, great windsurfing equipment. I rented a Starboard Isonic with a Severne Moto sail, everything in excellent condition. Depending on the wind it was even possible to change for smaller material during the rental period.”
“A good atmosphere and ideal for enjoying your sport. Whether you are taking your first steps, have done a course already and want to improve, or are a windsurfing pro, this is your place. Good instructors in whichever language you need, patient and able to adapt to the student's level.”
“The place is spectacular and the instructors know their stuff and are friendly. I am not giving five stars for three small reasons: during the World Cup the stretch of coast available is minimal, there is hardly a 145 board to be had, and the beach is some 250 metres from the equipment, so carrying it back and forth is exhausting.”
“Thanks to the whole R.E. team for their kindness and warmth. I have been windsurfing for 40 years and I am going home very happy at having managed my first sustained flights on a windsurf foil. Really, thank you for the advice on the equipment.”
