I want to start by thanking the guys from Medusa Cruises for an unforgettable experience. I'm in a wheelchair and I didn't have high expectations that I would be able to get into the water at the swim stops, but the guys were very helpful and kind and helped me get in and out of the water. They made my day better and I managed to snorkel in the wonderful Blue Lagoon. It was an extraordinary day. I said that four hours would be a long time but they passed quickly. I recommend Medusa Cruises.

What is this tour like?

Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, 10:15 to 14:15, out of Protaras towards Ayia Napa and Cape Greco, with half an hour in the water at the Blue Lagoon and another half hour at Turtle Bay. €30 per adult and €20 per child under twelve without lunch, or €40 and €30 with a Mediterranean lunch and a drink included.

Medusa Cruises is based in Protaras and has been running this coast for over ten years, which makes it the mirror image of the Ayia Napa harbour fleet: the same sights in the opposite order. The published route goes from the harbour past Protaras, Konnos Beach, the church of Ayioi Anargyroi and Kamara tou Koraka, then a thirty-minute swimming stop in the Blue Lagoon off Ayia Napa and a second thirty-minute stop at Turtle Bay.

The pricing is the unusual part and worth reading twice. The four-hour cruise is €40 for an adult and €30 for a child under twelve with lunch and a drink, or €30 and €20 for exactly the same four hours without them. The operator also runs a three-hour version on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at €30 and €20, where lunch and a drink can be added for €13.

What the operator promises on board is modest and specific: modern, clean boats, an English-speaking crew, free onboard photos, and day or sunset options. Guests fill in the rest — a bar, cocktails, two unhurried swimming stops, and a boat that is not packed. One Russian-speaking guest makes the comparison explicitly, saying other operators cram a hundred people onto a boat and this one had room in both the shade and the sun.

One detail deserves naming because it is rare on this coast: a guest travelling in a wheelchair writes that he did not expect to get into the water at all, and that the crew helped him in and out at the swim stops so that he could snorkel in the Blue Lagoon. The operator publishes no accessibility statement of its own, so this is one reported experience rather than a promise — but it is the right question to ask them.

The departure harbour is worth confirming when you book: the operator's route map names Golden Coast Harbour, its description of the three-hour cruise says Pernera Harbour, and its Google listing is at Protaras Harbour. All are in Protaras, but they are not the same quay.

What are the highlights?

  • The lunch is a choice, not a bundle: the same cruise costs €30 without it and €40 with it, so a family that would rather eat ashore does not pay for a meal it will not have
  • Departs from the Protaras end of the coast, so the route runs the other way round — towards Ayia Napa and Cape Greco
  • Two swimming stops of half an hour each, at the Blue Lagoon and at Turtle Bay
  • Free onboard photos, an English-speaking crew and a boat guests repeatedly describe as not crowded

  • 10:15Departure from Protaras

Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Confirm the exact quay when you book — the site names more than one.

  • —Konnos Beach and the cliffs

Past the church of Ayioi Anargyroi and Kamara tou Koraka on the way west.

  • —Thirty minutes in the Blue Lagoon

The first swimming stop, on the Ayia Napa side of Cape Greco.

  • —Thirty minutes at Turtle Bay

The second swimming stop. Guests report turtles and, occasionally, dolphins on the way.

  • —Lunch, if you bought it

The €40 fare includes a Mediterranean lunch and a drink; the €30 fare is the same cruise without them.

  • 14:15Back in Protaras

    Four hours in all.

What's included in the price?

  • Four hours on board with the crew, from Protaras to the Blue Lagoon and back
  • Two swimming stops of thirty minutes, at the Blue Lagoon and Turtle Bay
  • Commentary on the coast from an English-speaking crew
  • Free onboard photos
  • A Mediterranean lunch and a drink — but only on the €40 adult and €30 child fare

What's not included?

  • Lunch and a drink on the €30 adult and €20 child fare — that is the whole difference between the two prices
  • Further drinks — bought at the bar on board
  • Transfer to the harbour in Protaras
  • Towel, swimwear and sun protection

What should you know before you go?

Who it’s for
Guests staying in Protaras rather than Ayia Napa, and anyone who wants a cheaper way onto the same coastline and would rather choose whether lunch is part of it.
Level
No experience needed; the swimming stops are at anchor and last half an hour each. Guests report a smooth ride and nobody seasick, but the sea decides.
What to bring
Swimwear, a towel, sun protection and money or a card for the bar. Decide on the lunch when you book — it is the difference between the €30 and the €40 fare.
Meeting point
Protaras, Paralimni — the operator's Google listing is at Protaras Harbour (Vrysoudion, Ammochostos 5295), while its own pages name Golden Coast Harbour on the route map and Pernera Harbour for the three-hour cruise, so confirm the quay when you book. Operator: Medusa Cruises.

FAQ

Do I have to take the lunch?
No, and that is the point of the two prices. The same four-hour cruise is €30 for an adult and €20 for a child under twelve without lunch, €40 and €30 with a Mediterranean lunch and a drink. For a family of four choosing to eat ashore afterwards, that is €40 saved.
Which days does it sail?
The four-hour cruise runs Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, 10:15 to 14:15. On Monday, Tuesday and Thursday the operator runs a three-hour version instead, 10:15 to 13:15, at €30 for adults and €20 for children under twelve, with lunch and a drink available as a €13 extra.
How long do the swimming stops last?
Thirty minutes each, according to the operator's own route: one in the Blue Lagoon and one at Turtle Bay. That is shorter than the hour-long stops the Ayia Napa harbour boats advertise, and the trade is that this cruise is also cheaper and starts from the other end of the coast.
Will we see turtles?
The second stop is called Turtle Bay and the operator's own line is to dive in and mingle with the turtles there, but it gives no guarantee. Guests write both ways: several describe swimming close to turtles and one mentions dolphins, while another party says plainly that they saw none. Treat it as likely, not certain.
Is the boat crowded?
The operator makes no capacity claim, but this is the thing guests raise most often unprompted: one writes that there were few people and room in both the shade and the sun, drawing an explicit contrast with operators who put a hundred people on a boat; another simply says the boat is not overcrowded.
Can someone in a wheelchair take this cruise?
The operator publishes no accessibility statement, so there is nothing to promise on its behalf. What exists is one guest's account: he travels in a wheelchair, did not expect to get into the water at the swim stops, and writes that the crew helped him in and out so that he could snorkel in the Blue Lagoon. Ask them directly — that account suggests it is worth asking.
Where exactly does it leave from?
From Protaras — but pin the quay down when you book. The operator's route map names Golden Coast Harbour, its three-hour cruise description says Pernera Harbour, and its Google listing sits at Protaras Harbour. They are all in the same resort but they are different berths.
How does this compare with the boats out of Ayia Napa harbour?
Same coastline, opposite direction, lower price, shorter stops. The Ayia Napa boats leave from the other end and advertise hour-long swim stops with lunch built into a €45–€50 ticket; here you start in Protaras, swim for half an hour at each stop, and decide separately whether to pay for lunch. If you are staying in Protaras, you also save the drive.
Is there a bar on board?
The operator does not list one among its features, but guests repeatedly mention a bar and cocktails, and one review from the sunset cruise mentions hot dogs and fresh fruit as well. The one drink that is definitely included comes with the €40 lunch fare.
What else does this operator run?
A three-hour sunset cruise with fruit and champagne on Wednesdays and Sundays from 16:30, a two-and-a-half-hour Mermaid family cruise on Saturdays from 10:30 with a mermaid show, games and snacks, and private charters on two boats, Medusa I and Medusa. The operator publishes no prices for any of those three, so ask.

“Had an amazing four hours. Two great swim breaks in beautiful clear water. The clean and safe boat was smooth. No one got seasick. Sighted dolphins and swam close to turtles. The tour included clear explanations of the area. Very informative. An easy ten out of ten.”

★★★★★

“A wonderful trip. We did not bother with any organised excursions and booked the cruise ourselves on the website. The price is very pleasant, and there were few people on board — which is marvellous, rather than the way some tour operators cram a hundred people onto a boat. There was room for everyone, in the shade and in the sun, the music was good and nothing was pushy. And it was perfectly clean, everywhere.”

“An absolute recommendation. We booked the trip as a couple and we are delighted. The places you are shown are beautiful. At the two stops we could swim, snorkel and so on. Sadly we did not manage to see any turtles. The lunch, which was included in the price, was tasty. The crew were incredibly nice and funny.”
