What is this tour like?
Poseidon Dive Centre sits in a shop unit on Kavo Greko Avenue in Protaras, ten kilometres up the coast from Ayia Napa, and its Discover Scuba Diving is the entry point of its 2026 price list at 85 € per person.
The centre's own framing is modest and exact: a guided dive with which to discover what it is to breathe underwater, and pictures of the experience to take home. Age ten is the floor for this programme and for any full course; eight- and nine-year-olds are pointed to the Bubble Maker, which the FAQ caps at two metres depth and which is also 85 €.
Before you get in the water there is paperwork, and the centre is unusually clear about it. On arrival you fill in a customer record, liability releases and a PADI Medical Statement, answering every medical question with a plain yes or no. A single yes means you need a physician's authorisation to dive, which is why the centre advises calling your doctor before the trip if you already know of a condition. It will supply the forms.
Swimming is not a requirement here — the FAQ separates the try dive from the Open Water course, where 200 comfortable metres of swimming is expected. What the centre does ask for is general fitness and no diving with a cold, congestion, an ear infection, active asthma or alcohol in your system. Spectacles cannot be worn under a mask; contact lenses are fine.
The diving itself happens around Cape Greco National Park, which the centre describes as calm, shallow water that suits beginners, with rock formations and marine life. All the local sites are shore dives, so nothing here depends on a boat. On the season, the centre gives a straight answer that few Cypriot operators publish: in Protaras it runs generally from mid-April to the end of the first week of November.
If the dive works out, the programme is a stepping stone rather than a dead end — the centre says Discover Scuba Diving can be the first part of the Open Water course, which it prices at 475 € over three mornings.
