We had a fantastic day on the sea and around Los Lobos island. Jorge is a super experienced kayak guide and trainer. We had a really good time together kayaking on the sea, along the Los Lobos coastline, visiting small cosy bays, and did some nice snorkelling on the east coast with very clear water.
What is this tour like?
This is Kayak Fuerteventura's flagship day, and the operator makes no secret of why it prefers it to the boat traffic: no engines, no noise, no crowds — just the crossing, the paddling cadence and the volcanic landscape of the Lobos natural park.
The day starts at 9:00 in Corralejo and finishes at 15:00. In total you paddle nine kilometres, of which the crossing itself is about four; the operator says it normally takes forty-five minutes. On the sandy bottom and at the surface, stingrays and loggerhead turtles are sometimes spotted, with Cory's shearwaters and gulls overhead. On the island, the guide — an environmental technician — walks the group round the most interesting places and explains the geology, fauna and flora. Then comes the snorkelling, with tuition if you want it and the same fish identification sheet the operator uses on its shorter trip, and a light lunch before the paddle home.
Two practical facts belong at the front. First, the operator says its manager holds the Spanish Tecnico Deportivo en Piraguismo Nivel 2 awarded by the RFEP, which is mandatory to operate legally at sea in Spain and is what makes the customer insurance valid. Second, a law now limits Isla de Lobos to 200 simultaneous visitors and the island corporation runs an online authorisation system for them — Kayak Fuerteventura states it manages obtaining that authorisation for you.
The price is 60 € per person, with discounts above six people, and includes pick-up and drop-off in Corralejo, insurance, the sea kayak, paddle, buoyancy aid, spraydeck, mask and flippers, drinking water and lunch. The minimum age is 16, and the operator asks for reasonable physical condition — everyone can make this crossing, it says, with a bit of effort.
