Such an amazing experience here! Marie, David and Arnaud were such great instructors! Very friendly, confident and calming. My partner was very nervous going into it, but they did such a great job to make her feel safe and confident for the dive! The dive itself was amazing, such a great diving spot around Isla de Lobos, we saw some incredible marine life!

What is this tour like?

Punta Amanay is an SSI centre in Corralejo, at the north end of Fuerteventura, and almost everything it does happens in the water around Isla de Lobos — the small volcanic island in the strait between Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. The centre counts more than twenty sites there, with depths from six metres to over forty, and describes the seabed as white sand, lava formations and a wide variety of fish.

The day is built as two separate departures rather than one long trip. The 08:30 dive is reserved for more experienced divers; the 10:30 is open to certified divers of all levels. Because the boat comes back to the dive centre in between, you can book one or both. The whole thing takes about three hours.

One practical point the centre makes plainly, and it saves an argument at the quay: the boat dives in the waters around Lobos but never lands on the island, and it cannot pick anyone up or drop anyone off there. Lobos is a natural park with its own visiting rules; a dive trip is not a way in. Another: the boat is a rigid inflatable set up for diving, with few seats and those reserved for divers — a non-diving partner cannot simply come along for the ride.

On requirements, the centre is specific. You show a copy of a valid diving licence, digital or physical, and some sites call for an advanced level. You sign a health declaration, or bring a medical certificate if the questionnaire flags something. Diving insurance is compulsory — the centre quotes decree 550/2020, which requires accident and liability cover for anyone practising recreational diving in Spain — and it can be booked separately at the centre. Equipment rental is likewise a separate line, and the centre notes it rents gear only to its own divers.

One more thing worth timing a trip around: the centre's own FAQ says that if you are looking for angel sharks, come between November and February; spring brings very good visibility and active fauna, summer the warmest water, and September and October the calmest sea. On currents it is equally direct — this is the Atlantic, currents happen, conditions are checked on site, and if a site turns out to be too strong the boat moves.

What are the highlights?

  • More than twenty dive sites around the Lobos natural park, from six metres to over forty
  • Two departures a day — 08:30 for the more experienced, 10:30 for all certified levels
  • The boat returns to the centre between dives, so one dive or two is your choice
  • Nitrox is offered at no separate line in the included list — air or nitrox, 10 or 12 litres
  • A drying room at the centre for your own gear between dive days

What should you know before you go?

Who it’s for
Certified divers based in Corralejo or the north of the island who want the Lobos sites with a local guide, and divers who plan several days and want their gear kept and dried at the centre.
Level
A valid diving licence is required and must be shown as a copy, digital or physical; some dives require an advanced level. Minimum age to dive in the sea with this centre is twelve. A signed health declaration is required, or a medical certificate if the questionnaire flags a condition. Diving insurance is compulsory under decree 550/2020. The centre advises a refresher course if you have not dived for a long time.
What to bring
Your certification card, logbook and insurance certificate. A 5 mm suit is enough in summer, 7 mm or semi-dry the rest of the year — the centre rents gear, but only to its own divers. Do not fly for at least twelve hours after diving, or twenty-four after several days of it.
Meeting point

FAQ

Do we go ashore on Isla de Lobos?
No. The centre states it plainly: the vast majority of its sites are in the waters around Lobos, but the boat never enters the island, and for the same reason it cannot pick anyone up or drop anyone off there. If you want to walk on Lobos, that is a separate trip with its own permit.
What do I have to show to dive?
A copy of a valid diving licence, digital or physical; the centre notes some dives require an advanced level. Plus a signed health declaration, or a medical certificate if the questionnaire flags a condition. And diving insurance, which is legally required.
Is insurance really compulsory?
Yes, and it is not the centre's own rule. It quotes decree 550/2020: anyone practising recreational diving must hold accident and liability cover for any incident throughout the diving process. The centre can book it for you separately.
When are angel sharks around?
The centre's FAQ puts the window between November and February. It adds that spring usually brings very good visibility and active fauna, summer the warmest water, and September and October the calmest sea.
How strong are the currents at Lobos?
The centre's answer is worth quoting in spirit: this is the Atlantic, so strong currents happen, but experience lets them predict when and where. Conditions are checked on site before the dive, and if a site turns out to be too strong they raise anchor and go elsewhere. Current at one site does not mean current at all of them.
Can my non-diving partner come on the boat?
The centre says no in practice: the boat has only a few seats and they are reserved for divers. It describes the boat as a rigid inflatable set up for diving rather than a yacht with a sundeck.
What wetsuit thickness should I plan for?
The centre recommends 5 mm in the summer months and 7 mm or a semi-dry for the rest of the year.
Can I rent gear without booking a dive?
No. The centre states its equipment is exclusively for its own divers. It does have a drying area where you can leave your own gear between dive days, and GoPro cameras for hire.
How big are the groups?
The centre does not publish a ratio. A German reviewer in June 2026 reported one guide to five divers and found that too many in the narrow passages. The centre does offer a private guide as a bookable service, and the whole boat can be chartered — ask for rates.
Can I take a camera down?
Yes, if you are a certified diver and follow the guide's instructions. The centre asks beginners to concentrate on the diving instead, and offers to have the instructor take the pictures. GoPros are available for hire.
Is the “from 50 €” per person or per dive?
The activity page prints “From 50 €” and the structured data on the same page repeats “price: 50, priceCurrency: EUR”. Neither says whether that is per person or per dive, and the page describes a day in which you may take one dive or two — so confirm the unit when you book. What the page does state clearly is what the figure covers: the boat trip to the dive site, a 10- or 12-litre tank of air or nitrox with weights, and a certified dive guide. Equipment rental and diving insurance are named as not included.

“Would definitely recommend. As I'm 60 years old and never dived in the sea before I was a little apprehensive I'd have to say. But these people were brilliant. Very helpful and professional. The online sign-up process was great and they were always on WhatsApp with help and advice. Our guide Marie was great — she gave everyone the level of help they needed appropriate to level of experience. And a great dive site just off Los Lobos.”

“I spent two days diving with Punta Amanay. It was an absolutely great experience. All guides were professional, friendly and very helpful. All our dives brought something unique to see. The diving center has great facilities. I was quite surprised to find out that they have a private drying room, where you can leave your stuff to dry until the next dive day. They even let me use the drying room for two extra days when I was done with my dives.”

“We booked a dive and the guides were all very friendly, helpful and seemed competent. The dive site itself, with its rock formations and narrow passages, was genuinely exciting. What we liked less was the group size: one guide for five divers was too many in our view. In the narrow spots you often had fins in your face or were jostled by the person behind, which the guide could hardly keep an eye on. Next time we would ask about the group size in advance.”

“Excellent dive school in the town of Corralejo, in the north of Fuerteventura. Very professional; they answered very fast when I contacted them and booking was easy without having to change my plans. The instructors treat you well, the facilities are a ten, the equipment tidy and clean, they look after every detail. On the dive, the boat captain was superb and our instructor David likewise, always watching so the dive was as comfortable and safe as possible.”
