I did the Basic Diver course here during my stay on Fuerteventura and I am absolutely thrilled. I had no previous experience at all and felt very well prepared by the professional theory and practice at the dive school. The dive off the island of Lobos was the highlight of my workation. Thank you for the great day!
What is this tour like?
Punta Amanay used to sell a Double Try Dive. It no longer can: the centre states that a change in the regulations means the programme is no longer available and that it now offers the SSI Basic Diver course instead. That history explains the shape of the product — it is priced and paced like a taster, but it ends with a card.
Six hours, in three parts. The theory is an online lesson you work through yourself. The practice starts in the centre's own indoor heated pool, where you get comfortable with the gear and run the basic exercises. Then the boat goes out to Isla de Lobos for a dive at six to twelve metres, on a site the centre describes as having beautiful seabeds full of marine life.
What you leave with is a certificate valid for six months, during which you can keep diving as long as a diving professional is with you. It also earns what the centre calls a significant discount on the Open Water Diver course, so if you suspect you will want the full licence, this is a cheap way to find out first.
The requirements are modest and specific: you must be able to swim and be comfortable in water, be at least twelve years old, and either sign a health declaration or bring a medical certificate if the questionnaire flags something. Bring a swimsuit and towel. And you cannot fly the same day — the centre states this as a rule of the activity, not a suggestion.
Included in the price: the online theory, the pool exercises, the open-water dive, rental of the full diving equipment, diving insurance and the participation certificate. Not included: getting to and from the dive centre, food, and photos or videos, which are a separate booking.

“Yesterday my girlfriend and I did a Basic Dive course. It was a fantastic day with two instructors who love their job. They take a lot of time to give everyone a good feeling and to take away any fear or panic. We saw a sea turtle and lots of other great fish, so the dive site is well worth seeing too. You start with a little theory — very easy to follow and not overwhelming — then into the pool to try everything out and feel safe with your equipment. Then an hour's break and off into the sea.”
“Highly recommended! I felt very welcome. Esther was a wonderful instructor — I was safe and accompanied at every moment, and very clear in her explanations. Good materials and good equipment. I liked the experience very much!”
