Amazing experience completing my Open Water certification at Punta Amanay Diving Centre! The team was professional, friendly, and made me feel safe throughout the course. A special thanks to my instructor, Marie, for her patience, encouragement, and excellent teaching. I couldn't have asked for a better first diving experience. Highly recommended!
What is this tour like?
This is the standard entry licence to diving, taught by an SSI centre in Corralejo and examined in the water around Isla de Lobos. The centre's own framing is worth keeping: the Open Water Diver is the first certificate that allows you to dive to a maximum of eighteen metres without a professional supervising you, and after it you can plan and conduct dives yourself.
Four days. Theory classes, exercises in the pool, and four dives in the open sea near Lobos. The skills the centre names are the ones that actually separate a certified diver from a passenger: buoyancy control, underwater navigation and dive planning. The certification is international and recognised worldwide.
Who it is for, in the centre's words: anyone aged twelve and up who can swim and is comfortable in the water. Health is handled as everywhere in Spain — a signed declaration, or a medical certificate if the questionnaire raises something. Bring a swimsuit and a towel, and do not book a flight for the last day of the course.
If four days feels like a lot to commit blind, the centre has a cheaper way in: its Basic Diver course at 135 € covers theory, pool and one dive at Lobos, gives a six-month certificate, and earns what the centre calls a significant discount on this course. Going the other way, Open Water Diver Plus at 525 € is the same licence with more in it.
Included in the 460 €: theoretical classes, pool exercises, four dives close to Lobos, rental of the full diving equipment, the international certification and diving insurance. Not included: transport to or from the dive centre, accommodation, and food. The centre has a drying room where students leave gear between days, and reviewers mention that groups are kept together and split by level and by language across the days of the course.

“Great place. We did a family Open Water Diver course with Marco. He was an excellent and patient instructor; the other dive staff and boat crews were always very friendly and helpful. Did a dive after qualifying and our guide Nimes went out of his way to find amazing sealife to watch while all the time keeping a careful eye on us novices. Everything was very well organised and professionally managed.”
“Last week I did the Open Water course together with my twelve-year-old son. Beyond the facilities and the equipment, I rate the professionalism of the instructors and the rest of the staff very highly. I particularly want to highlight the way groups were split by level and by language and kept together through the days of the course, which makes you even more comfortable. Thanks to Gaetán and Marco above all for attention that makes you feel a hundred per cent safe throughout the activity.”
