What is this tour like?
A first kitesurf lesson with Siam Pro Kite on Koh Phangan's shallow lagoons: about 30 minutes of theory and safety, then 1:30 flying the kite in the water. ฿3,500 for the two hours; courses of 6 and 10 hours follow for ฿12,000 and ฿19,000.
The theory covers reading the spot, wind basics, setting up the equipment, a flight simulation and the three key safety steps. In the water you explore the wind window, launch and land the kite, fly it with one hand and walk with it, relaunch it from the water, try your first body drags and power strokes, and practise the quick release and a full self-rescue.
The school works with three wind seasons: north-east from mid-October to mid-January, south-east from mid-January to the end of April, and south-west from mid-May to the end of September. The courses are made of private two-hour lessons booked around wind, tide and your availability; the school says 90% of its students with no experience ride upwind on their own within five lessons.
