Every way to the Blue Lagoon on Comino is by boat. A round-trip ferry from Ċirkewwa or Marfa costs €15 per adult. A full-day shared cruise from Sliema costs €40–65 per adult depending on the route; Hera's €50–65 tickets include lunch and drinks. A private charter from Malta's north starts at €200 per boat for two hours, and from Gozo's Hondoq Bay a direct boat costs €10 per person.

Important

Blue Lagoon landing pass. Hera Cruises cites a new Government of Malta directive: everyone who wants to go ashore at the Blue Lagoon needs an access pass obtained in advance, and daily passes are limited. The time slot depends on the cruise — Hera asks Comino Direct passengers to pick the morning slot and Round Malta and 3-Bay passengers the afternoon slot; Luzzu names the afternoon slot, 13:30–17:30. A cruise ticket does not replace the pass; the Comino Ferries ferry ticket already includes landing access.

Shared cruises from Sliema

Hera Cruises (aboard the Hera, a Turkish gulet) and Luzzu Cruises both run shared day cruises from Sliema to Comino. Hera leaves at 09:30, Luzzu at 10:00, and both are back in the late afternoon. Prices are per person and include VAT.

Hera Cruises — three routes that visit the Blue Lagoon

Three Hera day cruises call at the Blue Lagoon. The Round Malta Cruise boards at Sliema Ferries; for the other two, the boarding point is confirmed when you book.

Transport charges (all Hera routes): adults and children €10 each, infants €5 each. It is charged on top of the ticket. Cave tours are not included on any route.

The Round Malta Cruise is the longest day: departure at 09:30 from Sliema Ferries, cruising past the Dingli Cliffs, a swim stop at Fomm il-Riħ, lunch on board, then Comino and the Blue Lagoon, returning via Mellieħa Bay, St. Paul's Islands, Qawra and St. Julian's at approximately 18:00.

The Comino Direct Cruise is the cheapest of Hera's three Comino cruises at €50 per adult. It sails straight to the Blue Lagoon, with a traditional Maltese ftira served on the way; lunch is served on board at around 13:00, and at about 14:00 the boat crosses to the Crystal Lagoon or Santa Maria Bay, depending on the weather, for around an hour of swimming.

Snorkelling equipment is available for rent on board (not included). In bad weather Hera may cancel or change the cruise; you are then offered another date or a full refund.

Luzzu Cruises

Luzzu Cruises sails from Sliema ferries (Ferries 4). Two of its day cruises call at the Blue Lagoon:

Luzzu Cruises — shared cruises to Comino (prices per person, VAT included)
RouteAdultChild 4–11ScheduleBlue Lagoon time
Gozo, Comino & Blue Lagoon€45€30Summer (Apr–Oct): 10:00, return 17:30; Winter (Nov–Mar): 10:00, return 17:00Included in route

The Comino & Blue Lagoon cruise includes a Crystal Lagoon stop (seasonal, May–October, weather permitting), the Blue Lagoon, and a visit to the Comino sea caves. Toilet and bar facilities are on board.

Luzzu's prices include VAT. For both cruises, Luzzu asks you to register in advance for a Blue Lagoon landing pass (QR code) and choose the afternoon slot, 13:30–17:30.

How the Sliema cruises compare

Sliema cruises compared — adult ticket

Hera CruisesRound Malta / 3-Bay€65Yes (cold buffet)Yes (beer, wine, soft drinks, water)€10 per adult/child

Luzzu's €40 ticket costs €10 less than Hera's Comino Direct. Hera's €50 includes a cold buffet lunch, beer, wine, soft drinks and water; Luzzu's ticket lists bar facilities on board rather than a meal, so the real gap depends on what you buy aboard.

The ferry from Malta's north — Comino Ferries

Comino Ferries has operated daily round-trip services since 1990 from Marfa and Ċirkewwa to the Blue Lagoon on Comino. The crossing takes approximately 20 minutes each way.

Comino Ferries — round-trip ferry (per person)
TicketPriceNotes
Adult round trip€15Includes free trip to the caves
Child under 10 round trip€7Includes free trip to the caves

Departures run daily from Marfa (08:30–16:00) and Ċirkewwa (08:40–17:00). In summer the operator may add extra trips. Tickets are valid for 3 months from the date of purchase and can be used on any scheduled departure from either Marfa or Ċirkewwa. Your ticket includes Blue Lagoon landing access — no separate QR code or time-slot booking is required when using Comino Ferries.

Bulky items (bicycles, inflated mattresses, camping equipment) may incur an additional €5 charge; wheelchairs are excluded from this.

At €15 return, the ferry costs less than the Sliema cruises above. The ticket covers the crossing and a free trip to the caves; you spend the day on Comino and take any return boat. Online tickets come at a reduced rate.

Tip

Return via Gozo. Comino Ferries can also take you on to Gozo instead of back to Malta. From Gozo you make your own way back to Malta: the Gozo Channel Line ferry runs 24 hours a day (ticket €4.65, bought in Gozo before boarding), and the Gozo High Speed Ferry costs €7.50 (May to September).

Private charters from Malta's north — Comino Ferries

Comino Ferries also runs private boat charters for up to 6 people, with a skipper, fuel, water, snorkelling gear, taxes and port fees included. Food, drinks, hotel transfer and pickup are not included.

The skipper has authority to cancel, postpone or modify the trip based on weather and sea conditions. A deposit via bank transfer is required to secure a reservation, and bookings are confirmed within 48 hours.

Short boat trips from Gozo — JoyRide Watersports

If you are already on Gozo, JoyRide Watersports runs boats to Comino from Hondoq Bay in Qala. It is a family-run business; look for the big yellow umbrella on the jetty.

The €10 direct boat drops you at the Blue Lagoon, and you stay as long as you like; the pick-up time is arranged on the day. The €15 Comino & Cave Tour first spends about 20 minutes in the Santa Maria Caves — five caves, one of them a filming location of The Count of Monte Cristo — and then leaves you at the Blue Lagoon. The private 3-hour trip covers Comino and parts of Gozo for €300 per boat (up to 8).

JoyRide asks passengers to book Blue Lagoon landing tickets separately; they are not part of its boat price.

Self-drive boats from Gozo

JoyRide Watersports also rents self-drive boats from Hondoq Bay. Drivers must be 21 or older. A €200 cash deposit is required and refunded if the boat is returned undamaged and on time. Fuel is not included — consumption is measured at the end of the trip.

Jet skis

JoyRide Watersports rents jet skis from Hondoq Bay, Gozo. The 40-minute adventure tour at €90 per jet ski includes snorkelling masks, water, a briefing, fuel, life jacket and photos. Shorter rentals start at €50 for 20 minutes (1 person) or €60 (2 persons). The activity is not suitable for anyone over 160 kg; participants must swim confidently in open water.

On Malta itself, jet skis are also rented out in Mellieħa and Marsascala — check who the actual operator is, and whether a licence is needed, before you book.

Practical notes

  • Weather: Hera, Luzzu and Comino Ferries can cancel or change a trip because of weather and sea conditions, and JoyRide's rentals depend on the weather too. Hera offers an alternative date or a full refund if it cancels.
  • Snorkelling gear: Comino Ferries private charters include it; Hera rents it on board; JoyRide's 40-minute jet ski adventure tour includes snorkelling masks.

FAQ

How much does a boat to the Blue Lagoon cost?

The ferry (€15 return) takes about 20 minutes each way and costs less than the Sliema cruises, but the ticket covers only the crossing and a free trip to the caves.
