Pattaya is a city with islands attached: Koh Larn — Coral Island — is 40 minutes offshore; a comfort speedboat with lunch and a schedule of your own costs ฿1,200 (≈ $33) per person.

Beyond it sit Koh Sak, Koh Krok and the fishing reefs around Koh Phai. On land the city runs from the Sanctuary of Truth to Buddha Mountain and the Walking Street, and it is the easiest sea destination in Thailand to reach from Bangkok — under two hours by road.

This guide covers the sea days first, because that is what people actually book, then everything else worth your time in 2026.

The islands of Pattaya: Koh Larn (Coral Island) and the near archipelago

Every island trip leaves from Bali Hai Pier at the southern end of Walking Street, and the crossing takes 30–45 minutes depending on the boat. What changes between options is not the destination — it is the crowd, the schedule and what is included.

Koh Larn the budget way — the market floor

The cheapest way across is a shared boat from Bali Hai, gathering at the Clock Tower by 10:00. It is an honest option if all you want is to get to the island: crowded and on somebody else's timetable, with the fare quoted at the pier. The timetable and the fare are the ferryman's; the outing with a schedule of your own is below.

Koh Larn by comfort speedboat — the middle rung

The Coral Island speedboat tour costs ฿1,200 (≈ $33) per person for about six hours with a group capped at 12: snorkelling over the reef, the white-sand bays, a Thai lunch by the water and your own schedule instead of the shared-boat shuttle rhythm. This is the sweet spot for most travellers — an island day without either the queue or a charter price.

The same island day also comes slower: the shared day trip on the 73-foot Serenity catamaran is ฿2,700 (≈ $75) per person in low season and runs 09:30 to 16:30 out of Ocean Marina — up to 45 guests, with a Thai buffet, a kayak, a SUP and a deck slide in the price, and half price for children aged 3 to 12.

Private boat — the whole island day on your terms

The private option is a four-hour yacht charter from Ocean Marina at ฿25,000 (≈ $692) per boat for up to ten guests, with a skipper: cast off, anchor off Koh Larn or Koh Sak, swim and lounge at your own pace.

Pattaya has several hulls to take whole, and the ladder is wider than one yacht: the 41-foot Sea Lord is ฿19,000 (≈ $526) for the four-hour morning block and takes up to twelve guests, Ocean Marina is ฿25,000 (≈ $692) for four hours and up to ten, the 73-foot Serenity catamaran is ฿35,000 (≈ $970) for the two-hour sunset run priced for 25 guests, and the Lagoon 440 sailing catamaran Marry Merry is ฿39,000 (≈ $1,080) for four hours and up to twenty. On the Pattaya Yacht Charters boats, 7% VAT and a ฿200 per-person guest pass sit on top of the boat price.

At ten guests Ocean Marina works out at ฿2,500 (≈ $69) each — the same as a seat on the sunset catamaran and about double the ฿1,200 (≈ $33) speedboat seat. You take the whole boat for the schedule, the company and an empty deck, not to save money.

Koh Larn in a group or private — which?

Go group if you are one or two people, want the beach and do not mind sharing it: the ฿1,200 (≈ $33) speedboat covers everything you need. Go private from about eight guests, or whenever the point is the boat itself — a birthday, a family day, a group that wants to swim away from the crowd. Between them, the ฿1,200 speedboat is the honest default.

Sunset, fishing and the rest of the water

Sunset under sail

A three-hour catamaran sunset cruise at ฿2,500 (≈ $69) per person is the low-commitment evening: the Gulf sunset from the water, a drink in hand, back in time for dinner. An evening on the water that does not take up the whole day.

The same evening can also be taken whole: the private sunset run on the Serenity catamaran leaves Ocean Marina from 17:00 to 19:00 and costs ฿35,000 (≈ $970) per boat in low season.

Fishing in Pattaya

Pattaya's reefs around Koh Phai, Koh Krok and Koh Samae San hold decent fishing, and a deep-sea fishing charter starts at ฿15,000 (≈ $415) per boat for up to eight anglers — about six hours with tackle and crew. Peak season runs October to March, when the water settles. Everything is on the Pattaya fishing page.

Jet ski tours in Pattaya

Instead of riding as a passenger, take the islands at the throttle: the 6 Islands jet ski tour runs ฿5,900 (≈ $163) per jet ski for about 3.5 hours, and the 9 Islands tour ฿7,900 for five hours — up to two riders per machine, no licence needed, always with a guide. Both are on the Pattaya jet ski page.

Diving in Pattaya, flat water and flying

Four different boats go under water off Pattaya, and the spread is wide. A diving day with Mermaids is ฿3,800 (≈ $105) per person; the Pattaya Dive Centre trip into the Samae San marine park to the Hardeep wreck is ฿2,900 (≈ $80) with your own kit; the Real Divers speedboat from Jomtien is ฿2,700 (≈ $75) for two dives; and if you would rather stay on the surface, a full day of snorkelling on the Thai Ocean Academy dive boat is ฿1,200 (≈ $33). Pattaya is where a lot of Thailand's first dives happen, on the near wrecks and reefs.

For something shorter on flat water, there are two cable parks: Thai Wake Park sells its slow-speed morning session at ฿450 (≈ $12), and Lakeland an hour at ฿900 (≈ $25). The wind sports do not start at three and a half thousand either: an hour of windsurfing at Clubloongchat on Na Jomtien is ฿900 (≈ $25), a two-hour kitesurf and wingfoil lesson at Blue Lagoon is ฿3,500 (≈ $97), and Amara Watersports rents a SUP board at ฿300 (≈ $8) an hour.

Two more formats happen above the water and above the island. Parasailing from a platform in the bay is ฿800 (≈ $22) per person for a half-hour slot, with two departures a day, at 09:00 and 15:00. Tandem paragliding over Koh Larn is not a water sport at all: you take off and land on your own feet from the ridge above Samae Beach, ten minutes in the air for ฿2,500 (≈ $69), and the boat to the island is not included.

Pattaya attractions: what to see on land

  • The Sanctuary of Truth — an all-teak carved temple-palace on the shore at Naklua, still unfinished after four decades and the single most striking thing in the city.
  • Buddha Mountain (Khao Chi Chan) — a 130-metre Buddha laser-cut into a cliff face and inlaid with gold.
  • Nong Nooch Tropical Garden — a botanical park big enough for a half-day, with the orchid and cycad collections doing the real work.
  • Wat Phra Yai on Pratumnak Hill — the Big Buddha and the viewpoint over the bay.
  • Walking Street and the night markets — the reason a lot of people come, and worth one evening whatever you think of it; we collected the calmer options in 8 ideas for an evening in Pattaya.

Beaches: where to base yourself

  • Pattaya Beach — central, walkable, loud, and the pier is at the end of it.
  • Jomtien — longer, calmer, families and long-stayers, and the kite and wing spot.
  • Naklua and Wongamat — north of the centre, quieter and more residential, the boutique end of town.
  • Koh Larn's own beaches (Tawaen, Samae, Nual) are the clean-water answer if the mainland sand disappoints — which, honestly, it sometimes does.

Still deciding on the destination itself? We compare it in Pattaya or Phuket for a first trip and Hua Hin or Pattaya.

When is the best time to visit Pattaya?

Pattaya sits on the Gulf, so its calendar is not Phuket's.

  • November–February is the dry, cool, calm-sea stretch and the peak.
  • March–May is hot but still reliably sailable.
  • June–October brings the rains — usually short afternoon storms rather than lost days, and boat trips to Koh Larn often run anyway because the crossing is short.

Fishing has its own calendar: October to March is the peak. If weather does cancel your tour, operators reschedule or refund — the exact terms belong to each operator, so check them before you pay.

How these outings connect to each other by the clock is in a day on the water in Pattaya. Compare the live options on the Pattaya boat tours page; booking goes direct with the operator in WhatsApp, at operator prices.

Pattaya or somewhere with clearer water?

Pattaya wins on access — under two hours from Bangkok — and loses on water clarity. If clear water is the point, the what-to-see-in-Phuket guide and Koh Samui are the two directions worth the extra flight, and Phi Phi is the day trip people fly for.

How do you book a tour in Pattaya?

The same island costs ฿1,200 (≈ $33) per person or from ฿19,000 (≈ $526) for a whole boat depending on how you go, so tell us what kind of day you want rather than a budget alone. We answer in WhatsApp and book direct with the operator, at their price.

FAQ

How much does a Koh Larn tour cost?
The usual Koh Larn day is a ฿1,200 (≈ $33)-per-person comfort speedboat with lunch, in a group capped at 12. A full day on the 73-foot Serenity catamaran is ฿2,700 (≈ $75) per person in low season. A private boat for the group starts at ฿19,000 (≈ $526) for the four-hour Sea Lord block; the Ocean Marina yacht is ฿25,000 (≈ $692) per boat for up to ten. Bare shared crossings at the pier are cheaper, but that is a packed boat on somebody else's timetable, with no lunch.
Koh Larn in a group or private — which is better?
The ฿1,200 (≈ $33) group speedboat suits one or two travellers who mainly want beach time. A private boat (from ฿19,000 for four hours, ฿25,000 for the Ocean Marina yacht) wins from about eight to ten guests, or when the boat itself is the point. The ฿1,200 speedboat is the reasonable default.
Koh Larn ferry: how do you get there from Pattaya?
Boats leave Bali Hai Pier at the southern end of Walking Street; the crossing takes 30–45 minutes. Group tours gather by the Clock Tower around 10:00 and usually include hotel pickup. Private charters leave from Ocean Marina in Na Chom Thian instead.
Is Pattaya good for a beach holiday?
The mainland beaches are convenient rather than beautiful; the clean water is on Koh Larn, 40 minutes offshore. Base yourself in Jomtien or Wongamat for calmer sand, and treat the islands as the beach day — that is how the city actually works.
When is the best time to visit Pattaya?
November to February is the dry, cool peak with the calmest sea. March to May is hot but reliably sailable. June to October brings short afternoon rains, though Koh Larn trips often run anyway because the crossing is short.
When is the fishing season in Pattaya?
Deep-sea fishing peaks from October to March, when the Gulf settles. Charters run year-round from ฿15,000 (≈ $415) per boat for up to eight anglers around the reefs of Koh Phai, Koh Krok and Koh Samae San.
How many days do you need in Pattaya?
Three full days cover it: one on Koh Larn or a boat tour, one for the land shortlist — Sanctuary of Truth, Buddha Mountain, Nong Nooch — and one for the beach, a jet ski or diving, plus an evening in town.
What happens if a boat tour is cancelled by weather?
The operator offers a new date or a refund; the exact terms are the operator's own, so ask for them before you book. Short Koh Larn crossings often still run in weather that stops open-sea fishing trips.
