A private sailing catamaran here costs $1,495 per boat for four hours with Moana Catamaran Cancun, for up to 15 guests. Split across a full boat that is about $100 a head; the dock fee is extra, and going ashore on Isla Mujeres needs a charter of five hours or more; six hours cost $1,830.

- 15the most guests on the Group Private Charter
- 8the most guests on the Luxury Service with a meal cooked on board
- $360the starting price of each hour beyond the booked time
The Moana sails from Marina Hacienda del Mar, km 1.5 of the Puerto Juárez–Punta Sam road, north of downtown Cancún. The operator's staff meet you at the marina and walk you on board, and the start time is agreed when you book. Patrick Jouault speaks French, English and Spanish, and the operator stresses that the Moana is its own boat, not a broker's.
What does it cost per person?#
It depends on how many of you there are, because the price is for the boat. Ten guests on the four-hour charter pay about $150 each; fifteen, the most the Group Private Charter takes, pay about $100 each. The dock fee is added on top, and the operator does not publish its amount.
Which of the two four-hour options should you book?#
The price is the same, so the choice is about the group. The Group Private Charter takes up to 15 with open bar, wine and a snorkel stop, and food cooked on board costs extra. The Luxury Service takes up to 8 and adds a premium bar, a two-course meal chosen from a menu before the trip, and sailing when the weather allows. Among the dishes Patrick cooks, the operator lists lobster, fresh salad, risotto and flambéed desserts.
Can you go ashore on Isla Mujeres?#
Not in four hours. The operator offers time in downtown Isla Mujeres only on services of five hours or more; the six-hour charter costs from $1,830. On four hours you anchor off the island to swim, and the snorkel stop is at a spot the operator describes as quiet, away from crowds and strong waves, with the crew close by.
Is a catamaran good for children or seasick guests?#
That is the operator's argument for it: with two hulls the boat does not heel or roll from side to side and only moves up and down, which it says suits children, older guests and anyone prone to motion sickness.

Important
The price is for the boat, not per person, and the Moana takes 15 at most. For a couple it is still $1,495 for four hours.
