Mahalo teaches from its spot at 62 Hua Thanon, on the south-east coast of Koh Samui, and the school is open from 09:00 to 18:00 seven days a week. The entry point is a three-hour session, and everything above it is sold in hours rather than days — which is why the first thing to settle is not the price but the unit behind it.
Is ฿7,000 per person or for the session?#
For the session, and the session comes with an instructor working with you alone. That is what makes it look expensive next to an hourly rate: three private hours are ฿7,000 either way. If there are two of you and you are happy to share one instructor and one set of gear, ask the school for its semi-private rate, which starts at ฿1,900 an hour.
What happens in the three hours?#
The first three quarters of an hour are theory on the beach: wind, gear and the safety systems, before anything is flown. From about 0:45 you learn to steer the kite with the instructor alongside. At about 1:30 you go into the water and work through several exercises — the part the session actually exists for — and it ends at three hours.
What comes after the taster?#
The beginner course repeats the entry-level skills and moves on to body dragging up and downwind, then water starts on the board. The extended course adds consistent riding in both directions, upwind riding and transitions, after which the school says you are an independent kitesurfer. All of it is priced by the hour package, not by the day.

What is worth checking before you book?#
- Getting there. The school does not state that a transfer is provided, so plan on reaching Hua Thanon yourself.
- Days, not just hours. The six-hour beginner course is split over two to three days, so it has to fit inside your stay.
- Sharing. Semi-private means two people, one instructor and one set of gear — not two sets.
- Equipment. Nothing is rented or brought: all the necessary equipment and insurance for it are listed as included in every course.
