What does the first lesson cover?#
Theory first: reading the spot, wind basics, setting up the kite, a flight simulation and the three key safety steps. In the water you explore the wind window, launch and land the kite, fly it one-handed and walk with it, relaunch it, try body drags and power strokes, and practise the quick release and a full self-rescue.
- Body drag
- being pulled through the water by the kite without the board, the step before riding.
- Riding upwind
- holding or gaining ground against the wind, the mark of an independent rider.
How long until I ride on my own?#
The school says 90% of its students with no experience ride upwind on their own within five lessons, which is the 10-hour course for ฿19,000 (≈ $526). Riders who already go upwind can take a one-hour customised lesson for ฿2,500 (≈ $69) and then rent gear at ฿1,000 (≈ $28) an hour.
- The season: the north-east wind starts in mid-October; late April to mid-May falls between the school's listed seasons.
- Whether the discovery lesson is private: the courses are; ask about the first lesson if you are two.
- The meeting point, which the school confirms by wind season.
Important
Lesson times follow the wind and the tide, so keep the day flexible after booking.
