Two different products live under one name here. At the marina in Caleta de Fuste you hire a boat by the hour and stay in a sheltered bay on your own. Everywhere else you buy a guided day: a fixed departure, kit, snorkelling and a route the guide picks that morning for the wind and the sea.
Hire by the hour or a guided trip, and from what age?#
Hire is what the marina at Puerto Castillo sells: kayak or board, paddle, off you go, with no guide on the water and no snorkelling gear, every day of the year. A guided trip means a 9:00 pick-up inside Corralejo or a free transfer from hotels in the south, a wetsuit or a spraydeck, mask and fins, insurance, and a launch point set on the day.
Twelve on the coastal morning from Corralejo, and sixteen on both the Lobos crossing and the day trips, where reasonable physical condition is asked for and groups are formed by paddling level. Kayaking Atlantis does not publish a minimum age for its two hours at La Lajita, and guests describe going with a nine- and a ten-year-old, so confirm it for your party. The double kayak at Puerto Castillo is the obvious boat for an adult with a child.
Is a permit needed for Isla de Lobos?#
Yes. A law caps the island at 200 simultaneous visitors and the island corporation runs an online system for the free authorisation. On the kayak crossing the operator states that it manages that for you as part of the trip, so there is nothing extra to arrange or pay. That is one of the practical differences from arriving by boat: you cross under your own power, four of the nine kilometres over open water in about forty-five minutes.
How much of the day does the water take?#
More than the hours on the price list suggest. The coastal morning runs 9:00 to 13:00 door to door, including the drive to whichever launch spot suits the conditions; the Lobos crossing takes until 15:00 and the day trips until 16:00, with up to 40 km of transfer inside Pack B. Only the hire at Caleta de Fuste and the two hours at La Lajita leave the rest of the day free.
What is worth checking before you book?#
- The transfer splits by coast: Kayak Fuerteventura picks up and drops off inside Corralejo only, while Kayaking Atlantis includes free pick-up from hotels and apartments in the south and asks for the address in the booking form.
- Food and water: lunch and drinking water come with the Lobos crossing and the day trips, while the four-hour coastal morning asks you to bring your own water.
- Groups of more than six get a discount from Kayak Fuerteventura, which names the rule but not the amount, so ask for the figure when you book.
- Photographs: the guide takes them on the coastal morning; at La Lajita they are marked as available on request, and guests describe buying the set afterwards, one of them naming €20.
- Languages: briefings at La Lajita are given in English, Spanish, German, Polish, French and Russian, and Kayak Fuerteventura lists Spanish, English and French.
Important
Two price units live in this category. The hire at Puerto Castillo is charged for the boat — €15 an hour for a single kayak or a paddle board, €25 for a double, so two people sharing the double pay €25 between them. Every guided trip is charged per person, and the 10 % online discount at La Lajita applies to that per-person figure.
