Two very different hires sit under one heading. In Corralejo you take a small sailing dinghy by the hour and the hour is the activity itself. In Morro Jable you take a motorboat that is licence-free until 30 September 2026, for half a day, and it is transport: you pick the beaches, nobody comes with you, and the price is for the hull.
Do you really not need a licence?#
Until 30 September 2026, not for either boat, but for different reasons. The Voraz meets all five Spanish conditions for licence-free hire at once: under five metres, no more than 15 hp, daylight navigation, a skipper of at least eighteen, and no further than one nautical mile from the coast.
Important
For the motorboat that ends. RD 1188/2025 rewrites the article this rests on, and from 1 October 2026 the exemption covers only private and sporting use — on a hire, the person renting the boat must hold the relevant qualification. Until 30 September 2026 nothing changes: under 5 metres, up to 15 CV, daylight navigation, from the age of 18, and inside the distance limit the operator states.
Rent a Boat Fuerteventura also hires the same Voraz to licensed skippers. Details and dates: what changes on 1 October 2026.
Sail or motor — what changes?#
The unit of time, first of all. The Voraz is a V-hull open boat homologated in category C and catalogued as unsinkable, and it is sold in three lengths of day.
How far can you go, until when, and who is at the helm?#
One nautical mile from the coast is the legal limit for licence-free navigation and it holds for the whole hire; along the south of Fuerteventura that still covers a long stretch of beach. Evenings are out: licence-free hire, which runs until 30.09.2026, is daytime navigation only, and the operator hires the same boat to licensed skippers for anything beyond that. The dinghy stays in sheltered bays by the operator's own description.
Nobody is provided on the motorboat — a licence-free hire has no skipper, and if none of your party wants to steer, this is the wrong product; the same operator runs crewed excursions, sport fishing and wakeboarding instead. On the dinghy it is the opposite: the skipper is optional and free of surcharge, and his stated job is to teach you enough to hire the boat alone next time.
What is worth checking before you book?#
- Fuel is outside the price on all three durations of the Voraz — the price list reads «+ gasolina» — and the 15 hp Mercury EFI is a low-consumption engine, but the bill is yours.
- The deposit: €300, refundable, held for the hire. Budget for it alongside the fare rather than on top of your last day.
- Age: eighteen to skipper the licence-free motorboat. The dinghy operator does not publish a minimum age, so ask when you book if children are coming.
- Both boats are booked by phone or e-mail rather than through a calendar, and neither price includes food, drinks or snorkelling gear; a four-metre dinghy is a wet boat, so bring a towel and a change of clothes.
Important
The price is for the boat, not per person — €200, €250 and €300 cover three, five and eight hours of the Voraz for a party of four. What the figure does not cover is the fuel, billed on top in every case, and the €300 deposit held for the duration of the hire.
