Krabi Half-Day Kayaking at Ao Thalane (Koh Tour)
By far our greatest touristic experience around Ao Nang. Stunning views, great guide, and overall great tour. Easy pick-up at the hotel, convenient booking online, and a small group of 10 people.
9 options for sea kayak & canoe in Krabi — real operator prices, routes and guest reviews, all in one place.
Paddling in Krabi starts at ฿695 (about $19) per person — Koh Tour's three and a half hours on Klong Rud, a clear freshwater canal at Nong Thale, with hotel pick-up, a guide, life vests, water and fruit.
The ฿50 canal entrance is paid on arrival.
The private end is a different kind of day. Karst Aways runs Ao Thalane for ฿1,800 (about $50) per person with no more than four guests a day, a three-seat kayak for every two people and a home-cooked meal in a cove; the five hours are yours alone, and you pay in full after the tour, with no deposit.
Between the two ends sit mangrove half-days, cave routes and sunset paddles with a barbecue:
Five hours with hotel pick-up: mangrove forest, sea caves under karst walls, macaques and kingfishers, 25 minutes from Ao Nang.
A full day out to the Hong group: the emerald lagoon and the 360° viewpoint, plus Lao Lading and the Pak Bia sandbar, with kayaking and snorkelling.
Three to four hours on a mirror-clear freshwater lake fifteen minutes from Ao Nang: paddling to Klong Namsai, a swim in the lagoon and fish feeding at the pier.
Three hours in the mangroves and sea caves of Nuea Khlong, on the quiet eastern side of Krabi, with a local family that ends the trip with fresh coconuts.
A husband-and-wife operation that takes four guests a day: mangroves, canyons, a white sand beach and a home-cooked meal at a hidden cove.
An hour north of Ao Nang: paddling a tunnel cave full of stalactites, a burial cave with paintings believed to be 3,000 years old, and an inner lagoon — with lunch on the river.
The bay the operator has paddled since 1995: mangrove channels, caves and limestone walls at Ao Thalane, as a half day or a full day with lunch.
Six hours built around the sunset: mangrove channels and limestone cliffs while the light drops, then a barbecue dinner on the beach.
An evening paddle from 15:00 to 19:30: the bay in low light, then a barbecue at the operator's café.

Fabulous day with guided kayak tour with Yussep. Then a few days later we did a boat trip out to the islands, going to remote beaches and seeing amazing landscapes.
We did the sea kayak trip with Sea Kayak Krabi and loved every minute. The mangrove forest, monkeys and quiet lagoons were amazing, and the cliffs and rock formations around us were so beautiful.
This was so relaxing and beautiful. It was so peaceful paddling through. The guide was kind and gave us plenty of time to enjoy the scenery.
Most of the paddling here happens on the mainland rather than at sea: mangrove bays and canals between limestone walls, at Ao Thalane, Bor Thor and Klong Rud. The island day at Hong is the exception, and it is the only route on which a national park starts to matter.
Ao Thalane is the classic — mangrove channels with karst towers on both sides, roughly 30 km from Ao Nang. Bor Thor, in Ao Luek district, is about an hour's drive and swaps mangroves for caves: Lod, the painted Pee Hua Too and an inner lagoon. Klong Rud is fresh water and the shortest outing of all. Hong is the sea day.
| Place | What you see | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Klong Rud, Nong Thale | Clear freshwater canal, a lagoon to swim in, a fish spa | ฿695 (about $19) per person |
| Baan Sai Poh, Nuea Khlong | Mangrove forest and hidden sea caves | ฿700 (about $19) per person |
| Ao Thalane, half day | Mangrove channels under limestone walls | ฿895 (about $25) per person |
| Bor Thor, Ao Luek | Lod cave, the rock paintings of Pee Hua Too, an inner lagoon | ฿1,795 (about $50) per person |
| Hong, Lao Lading and Pak Bia | Kayaking and snorkelling around the islands, 08:00 to 16:00 | ฿3,300 (about $91), unit not named |
Sunset paddles are their own product and end with food. Ride & Raft takes about six hours at Ao Thalane and finishes with a barbecue on the beach at ฿1,200 (about $33) per adult and ฿960 per child. Sea Kayak Krabi runs 15:00 to 19:30 for ฿3,500 and barbecues at its own café, again without naming a unit. Mornings are simply earlier: Klong Rud has three windows, 08:30, 13:00 and 15:30.
Karst Aways caps the day at four guests, puts two people in a three-seat kayak and sets your pick-up time personally the evening before; the start moves with the tide, so the mangrove stays passable. That is the private pole of the category — five hours at Ao Thalane for ฿1,800 (about $50) per person, with the route to yourselves.
Important
the Hong day is the only route here that enters a national park, and the fee — ฿300 (about $8) per adult, ฿150 per child — is handed to the rangers in cash. Sea Kayak Krabi's page does not say whether it is already inside the ฿3,300, so ask before you go.
Tips, destinations and everything water-sports.

Island days from ฿990, the Hong lagoon in a different national park, sea caves by kayak, diving off Phi Phi and boats sold whole — with the park fees that are paid in cash and never folded into the price.

English is the working language of Krabi's boat and dive operators. Spanish, French, Thai and Finnish are named by particular operators, and among the operators we checked Russian appears only in guest reviews — here is what each of those claims rests on.

Ao Nang is 33.3 km from Phi Phi in a straight line, Rassada 41.2 km. Four operator prices for the same Phi Phi day, the park fee that is charged separately, and what the other shore is worth crossing for.
