Local reefs or Sail Rock?#
Koh Tao's own sites are close: Crystal Dive runs two boats a day, 07:00–11:30 and 12:00–17:00, and the morning boat is back before lunch. Sail Rock is a full day. Big Blue goes every third day with three dives and two meals; Simple Life goes with two dives and lunch for ฿2,900 (≈ $80). Both ask for Open Water, and Advanced for the parts below 18 m.

Can I dive without a certificate?#
Yes. Simple Life Divers runs PADI Discover Scuba Diving from 11:00: a briefing at the shop, skills in shallow water, a reef dive to 6 m and an optional second dive to 12 m, for ฿2,500 (≈ $69) with materials, gear, boat and day insurance. Sail Rock is not offered to snorkellers or for try dives.
What about freediving?#
Apnea Total teaches the two-day Freediver course for ฿7,000 (≈ $194): classroom at 8:30, sea sessions in the afternoon, line dives to 12 m on day one and a rescue from 6 m for the certificate. You need to swim 200 m and be at least 11.
- When you last dived: Big Blue asks for a dive within 12 months for Sail Rock, and Crystal Dive sells a refresher for ฿1,800 (≈ $50).
- The return time: Big Blue gives 16:00 in the schedule and 17:00 in the day plan for Sail Rock.
- Whether rental gear is included: it is at Crystal Dive and Big Blue; Simple Life's Sail Rock page lists only lunch.
Important
Big Blue's Sail Rock boat leaves only every third day, on the 2nd, 5th, 8th and so on in October 2026. Book after 18:00 the day before and the place is not guaranteed.
